Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. I'm going to predict that you'll miss the worst of the hurricane's fury in your location. -
Anyone south of Sunrise highway on Long Island has been advised to evacuate also. Can't wait until this is over with.

Place the flotation device around your neck and give the ---- a tug.
All set at home for this one. Of course living near the PA border of Hunterdon County I have to say, I am just worried about trees if the winds come out this way. We have some old suckers around the property. -
Got the Victrola ready in case power goes out.

I don't think he was talking about the hurricane, just his normal weekend! -
Why are so many people acting like this never happens on the East Coast? If anything, we've been lucky the past few years and the lack of a storm cruising up the east coast has been the anomaly.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

This will actually be my first storm of this kind, I was on vacation in FL for Gloria."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -

THAT, is a lot of people. Have fun Mike. -
Pizza going in the oven now. Lights just poped off and on. I hope I get that pizza thawed enough to eat some.
So far so good.
We've gotten 1 1/4 inches of rain so far.
The bands still come and go and they seem to be getting stronger now. Still a little light out too. It's going to be one noisy stressful night.
Watching my neighbor boarding up his windows this afternoon made me feel uneasy, like I might have missed a new update somehow:..
Thank God we had a new roof put on a couple years ago. I always stressed out when these BIG storms dumped alot of rain. The roof would always leak somewhere.:frown:
Thanks for the thoughts and laughs..:biggrin:Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -

According to most outlets the last hurricane to hit us was Bob in 1991. 20 years is a good run.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Stay safe guys. Trajectories have this thing reaching even me?

Afraid not bud. Your orbit is too far out there. The APN-59 radar we had on the airplane wouldn't have picked you up. -
What about THESE people?? I want this job.

That's not a real good job son.

Pizza got cooked and my wife showed me this video from 4:00 today at Wrightsville Beach, just 7 miles from us. As I was typing this, our local news showed another live broadcast and the reporter was getting slamed and even lost contact with her. Before the link was cut off, she said the surf surge was now topping the top of the dunes there. Man, we have all night to go still.:frown:

Glad I'm on the north shore now.... I would be crapping my pants if I was still in my old house. -
Seems like every hurricane I've been through was during the night and the worst can last for hours. The gusts come and go, eventually you'll lose power(notice the transformers blowing, the momentary green flash in the sky.) Looks like Wilmington area has a lot of rain heading in that direction tonight.

This is great!!...I have a lot of work to do in my basement and if we are forced to go down there Sunday, i can finally put the little woman to work!
Thanks Irene!

Made sure to pick up 4 bottles of vino for Saturday and Sunday. Now I'm ready."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

well she missed me on Ga. coast by a little ways...just a breeze blowing all day. Irene does not really care we named her, she doesn't care about the parcels we claim to own, she doesn't care the power companies will lose millions and then charge you back, she is moving a bunch a water from one spot on the planet to another while taking down whatever is weak in her path, she is doing what storms are meant to do, everyone be safe and protect what you can, but most of all protect yourselves and families.

Watching this storm on doppler radar, looks like it's spawning some momentary vortexs way offshore.

Just got off the phone with my son he said they are being evacuated in NY..
-
Anybody in Maryland remember that **** Isabel ? I ran my chainsaw for two days straight after she was finished ! I hope Irene doesn't decide to veer West instead of her Northward path! Except if she'd headed for poor Texas, I bet they'd gladly sustain some wind damage to get a thorough soaking.

Wait, where in NY?
I can't imagine any major areas of NY that an evacuation wouldn't cause more problems than it would solve. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

We've had a few hit us since 1991. Most just lose all their steam and end up being tropical storms or tropical depressions once they get up here.
Well, at least here in NJ. New England usually gets spared because they will start peeling off to open sea due to high pressure areas over Canada pushing them that way after they stomp all over NJ and eastern PA.
We got Isabel last year, Igor a couple years ago put my friend's deli under water. Lost $30K in equipment and food products. Frances in 2004 ran over us pretty good 'cause it came inland and ran all the way up to Canada. Dumped insane levels of water on us, widespread flooding everywhere. Ike in 2008 gave us lots of flooding here too. We got hit by the northeast wall which is usually where the majority of the rainfall hits. Ike dumped an entire season's worth of rain on us in like 5 hours. And Floyd, Floyd hammered us in '99. Postponed schools opening for a few days and shredded roofs and ripped up trees all over the area. Edouard in '96 caused the highest storm surge recorded on the Jersey coast and the storm surge alone killed 2 people.
We've had a few doozies here since 1990.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
