Oh. Rear compartment speakers for one of those little Honda Civic hatchbacks with the Coke can on the exhaust pipe, a wing on the back and neon lights underneath.

It does look rather ominous, but I think I found it!

    Aspara Acoustics HL1

From what I can tell it is available in several finishes, but I think I got it. Man, that was nuts! I have been looking since it was posted yesterday. Nothing better to do sitting at home recovering from surgery I guess. :). Let me see if I can find something obscure.

They contain Altec 604Es fed by Doug Sax's Mastering Labs XOs and live in my living room. They are vented (reflex) 9 ft^3 cabinets designed by AKer "Billfort"... and they are (as Lawrence Welk used to say) a-wunnerful, a-wunnerful.

Yeah, his are a little prettier than mine... so? :-)

You're good Ken! I had no idea what this was.

Empire model 8000 P Grenadier. According to the guy selling them: They were made in the early 60's. They have a 14" downward facing woofer. 3"dome mid and 1" dome tweeter.
    About 70 lbs each

I can't verify any of that. Has anyone heard these in action?

    What happened to the Photo?

The audio store I first started working for, once I became a civilian, carried the Empire products, turntable and speakers. If memory served I don't believe I was a fan of the speakers. I favored the AR and Rectilinear speakers, also Dynaco.
Let's see who can ID this set of speakers?
    Cheers, Ken

The woofers look like EVs; dunno, though, because it doesn't otherwise look too much like an EV product.
Overall reminds me of RtR or Rectilinear.

Okay, I'll give some hints. These speakers were designed by a guy who is considered the first person to offer a ultra high
performance speaker wire. He also produced vinyl recordings of outstanding realism.

oops, my comment was to cnh's post, not yours, Mr. S. I cannot really see what's in the "hifi shop" photo too well... I think I may see Jimmy Hoffa and Amelia Earhart in the gloomy background...

I should've said murky (and small); just haven't had enough caffeine yet this AM...
The store looks anything but gloomy! :-)

BTW (and FWIW) your clues aren't helping me... I the first "high performance" speaker cables I ran across myself were the Polk Audio Cobra Cables; and I do not know their genesis.

I tried to attach another photo, but the new procedure for doing so threw me for a loop. Let me see if I can figure it out. The speaker system was really superb sounding, although the designer was constantly making small changes. He was a great guy to work with and built amazing stuff. A person could start with one piece of it and gradually add components to it.
