and the face of the woodwork looks very KLH too - but I haven't a clue what model it is if it's KLH.
heh-heh-heh... the purveyors of the loudspeaker in question wanted it to look like a Henry Kloss product, that's for sure.
In fact, the woofer is very well made, with a cast basket - physically speaking, better than the KLH products. The speaker's retailer was, and still is, in a manner of speaking, a very large player in consumer electronics.wayne3burk wrote: »I know it's not my turn but i got an even easier one here....
It can be your turn, too :-) Looks like an Original (Large) Utility Advent to me... the Advents are tricky, though... many of them look alike and the names are sort of arbitrary. Nonetheless, Original Large Advent Utility is my official guess.
-
oh, fug - I already know my guess is wrong! :-( The OLA had the masonite rimmed woofer... so I don't know what flavor of Advent that is! Heck, maybe it's the "Advent/2" mentioned in the scan I posted, for all that I know!
There is a nice thread at audiokarma on identifying classic Advent speaker models... Identifying Advents in the field is a little like identifying warblers in the field. Any birders here will catch my drift :-) -
The serial number on the back starts with U3 - so maybe that stands for Utility 3.
but it's the utility for sure based on the basic MDF veneered enclosure.
I just got the pair yesterday and it's the first time i've heard this speaker (since 1975). I'm pleasently surprised by how nice they sound - I think definitely better than the Dynaco A25s, IMHO.Yamaha RX-V2700, EMI 711As (front), RCA K-16 (rear), Magnavox Console (Center & TV Stand), Sony SMP-N200 media streamer, Dual 1249 TT =--- Sharp Aquas 60" LCD tellie -
I've got three of 'em taking up space at my house :-P
I prefer the Dynacos myself... but the Advent, like its other New England cousins, has a way with bass. -
Hey Mhardy, those speakers you posted are Realistic Optimus 1's.
They look a lot like KLH 6's, 17's and 23's. Yes I looked up all three looking for a match.
Then I remembered why I knew them. The story goes KLH sent Realistic or Tandy or whoever a cease and desist on making that speaker so Realistic changed the look and made the Optimus 1B. Picture of 1B below.

Now you can't tell me you don't know what these speakers are.

Ding, ding, ding! Big winner here, folks! :-) -
Thanks, I love this game.

For the record - I don't know what the thing with lots of drivers in post #158 is - but I'll bet their designer is intimately familiar with the term comb filtering.
I know there were some Polk "towers" with lots of drivers in them... but I don't think the speaker in question is one of them. -

Is that a clue? That's a clue, isn't it?!
Ohio... or maybe China, or East Baltimore. near the Horrible Tunnel? :-)

It was a clue and you have solved the riddle. They are Canton A-30's. They were the cream of the crop a bunch of years ago.
Heard them once and was floored by the impact. Such a solid sound from so many drivers is so cool.
Put up another one!!!! -

This made me laugh, Mark. A few years ago during the spring migration my parents ID'd about 15 warbler species in one day, in one tree in their front yard.
Don't think Mom and Dad would be too much help with Advent-identification however.

I knew there'd be someone!
As to your parents... ahh, they can be trained ;-)
Mrs. H is into the birding thing, big time. ID'ing warblers and sparrows is not for tyros (i.e., like me)! -
Not sure myself what these are. Anyone?
That took some research, they are Manolis' Speakers called Anima's. They are built in Athens. They are no longer produced.
Unique take on horn speakers.
Here are some other pics of them.
