After looking back through this thread and related ones for the 40-somethingth time I'm a little confused still. It would *appear* that I *can* use these boards to do the full update and TL conversion on my stock 1987ish vintage CRS+ pair (single tweeter; B/B interconnect)...am I right? (The "main" post states that these are only for P/B CRS+ but there's enough other info that I think I can make it work with mine...)
    Current polk speakers:
    Family room 5.1: TC265i R/L, VM10 Center, RC65i surrounds (couldn't match the TCs)
Basement non-dedicated 7.1 HT: SDA-CRS+ R/L, 255c-LS Center, LSiFX surrounds, RC80i in-ceiling rear surround, plus Wharfedale 12" sub (some day I'll get around to building 15" F-20 sub).

I don't think so. Polk made 3 versions of the CRS+'s as far as I know.

    1. 1986 Single tweeter, B/B IC, Dual board crossover, MW6510 stereo driver, MW6510 dimensional driver.
    2. 1987 Single tweeter, P/B IC, Single board crossover, MW6503 stereo driver, MW6511 dimensional driver.
    3. 1986 Single tweeter, P/B IC, Single board crossover, MW6510 stereo driver, MW6511 dimensional driver.

One way to tell for sure is to pull both drivers and see if there both MW6510's also look at the crossover and see if it's of the dual board design. If this is the case you've got the 1986 version and these boards wont work for you.

Based on everything I can see, looks as though you're correct. So the next question is: If I really want to redo my crossovers and go full-up 4.1TL, and I'm removing the drivers anyway to add TOOL's rings, should I attempt to procure two MW6511s? It looks as though if I do that plus the RDO198 tweeters plus the new boards, I can do the full-up conversion with these boards.

Sort of a crazy way to do it, but I can still end up with a very nice "new to me" set of speakers for ~ $600 it would seem...The only other option would be to try to re-engineer the crossover mod to work with a very different driver (4ohm -vs- 8 ohm) and as a EE after comparing the 1986 and 1989 schematics I'm not thrilled with re-engineering things...

If you really want to TL your CRS+ I think your best bet would be to pick up a pair of single board 2B crossovers with the big round 16mH inductors. Hears a link to what TOOLFORLIFEFAN did with his 1986 B/B CRS+'s

BTW in that list of mine post #94 number 3 should read 1989 not 1986

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

    Hi Gimpod,

I have to ask man. Is there any reason we don't replace the inductors? It seems to me you could build the board complete and not remove anything from the old board(other than the big coil on the back).

    Thanks, 1C

I can answer that one. It's been tried and the original inductors are better.

Ok fair enough. What makes them better? I just checked the sonicraft website and found the replacement would be huge! is that the only reason?

It would be difficult to source new inductors with the same values(mH, DCR) as the old ones.

It's been tried in a very limited number of xovers from what I've read, like 2 or so public folks on here. Didn't another Polkie rave about the changes in another thread? I'm not sure who that was tho...

I don't have any issues nor poor experience with replacing inductors, never have and its been years. I'd want a much larger perspective on this if I was a newbie mulling the idea over.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Ok boys and girls I have 8 pairs of boards left not counting the ones I'm holding for the following members Conradicles, fbm211, heiney9, jmitchnh, knie0012, mikekipina, newrival, Outfitter03. After these are gone there going to be gone. See post # 89 for ordering info.

On board level inductor replacement I have to agree with F1nut & Face, Sorry dorokusai.

Here's a link to a thread by DarqueKnight who tried this for the low pass section and his experience in doing so.

First the rings now the boards!!! I have two extra sets that I'm hanging on to just because I figured this would happen soon.

If anyone is on the fence I would snag them now as this is a must have IMO for xover upgrades!!! You will not be disappointed.

Get the wifie a $10 gift card from Walmart and then buy a set of these for yourself. While she is not talking to you would be a great time to solder up the crossovers. You won't regret it.
