The big winter storm....

So I'm sitting here, knocking back some frontier whiskey throughout the evening, refreshing posts, clicking on new posts, deleting the spam threads and banning aholes here and there... Normal stuff.

But as of 12:27 CST, posts seem to be dropping off the radar, I refresh and there is ONE new thread? I can't think of EVER seeing that on CP. Is everyone hogged up? Are polkies wandering through the snow with pelts from wild beasts draped over them? Is it the Mayan thing a year early? Do I need to dump the remaining milk and oj, and fill the containers with petrol for the Madmax scernario?

Wake up people, entertain me. What is more important, using the generator to heat your family just above hypothermia, or to make a solid post on CP? Priorities.....

Cheers,
Russ

I'd make a solid one but I don't think you'd want to smell it here.

Actually....I had a HUGE burger the other day, full pound of beef. A little whiskey and some o-rings to chase, the next day? Forget it. I smelled like rotten flesh and ether, from all openings. I actually felt ashamed, but I'm over it now.

Well I've been up working on my taxes and waiting for the big storm, but other than some a$$hat making **** comments on my FB posts it's been a pretty uneventful night.

Snow is now a weekly thing here. I just woke up to see how much more has fallen. Looks right now like a dusting but more is supposed to follow.

I feel this is a retarded problem to have. If it wasn't for my wife wanting to live here I would already have moved. West I say Due West.

I've lived on both coasts and visited most parts in between. You can't beat California for weather (you may have to put up with whatever bothers you about California, but the weather is consistently some of the best on the planet).

I have alot of friends and family in the DC area. Glad I'm not there.

It'll be mid to high 60's and sunny skies here all week!

    Cheers!

I spent the last few hours having fun perusing Mouser for goodies. Anyway, they were calling for freezing rain tonight...nothing so far.

I Can't agree with you move my man. LA Beverly Hills weather is the best on the planet. I can deal with everything else , cold , snow , ICE just sucks the life out of yeah. Actually all extreme weather sucks **** but I think the cold is the worse. I can always find a way to cool off but getting warm is much harder. Cold hurts more then heat. My joints don't hurt when it's hot out.

We are somwhere between an eigth and a quarter of an inch of ice at the moment. I am a 2nd shifter and get off work at 1am and it took me an hour to get home. Normally it takes about 30-35 minutes. Not a single other vehicle on the road, but it was sooo slick that I couldn't give it gas or hit the brakes. It slid sideways either way.

Around here, 4-wheelers have license plates, we run them on the roads all the time. No need to worry about what the local deputy thinks....they just wave as you go flying by.

Well let's see. I live in the Boston area (just north), yesterday on my way to work I passed one of those temperature displays. It was a full 1 degree F. By last night it got up to 4 degrees.

As for the snow, in my front yard it is over my head. We've had over 5 feet in January alone. Today and tomorrow we are getting back-to-back storms with about another 20 inches or more predicted.

We literally are running out places to put all of the snow. They just fined some company because they caught them dumping it in to the river.

The only good thing is I may "work" from home tomorrow. Since I just cracked open Gran Turismo 5 for my PS3 (looks awesome and sounds great on my Polks!) I will be working hard.

I leave all my snow outdoors. Save the cabinet space for pudding and pint glasses. Every day i put a handful in my pocket and throw it away at the company dumpster. My yard is almost clear......

Almost busted my a$$ when I went outside!! Glad we should make it through this without too much slick stuff! It could have been a lot worse.

Looking like 18-24" here in the Midwest between 3pm today and 3pm tomorrow. 50mph gusts of wind and then bitter single digit cold Thurs and Fri. We aren't strangers to snow in the Midwest (IL) but 18-24" in a 12 hour period will get your attention.

I believe they are calling it Thunder Snow as we will occasionally hear thunder during the blizzard.

Yeah, up here in the DFW metroplex, it was nasty around 5AM. Wind chill is between 3 and -1 depending on where you are in the area. Some of the highways are down, multiple accidents, the airport was shutdown, and DART (bus, light rail) was down but I think they're coming back online slowly.

We got a TON of ice, and last night was supposed to be the mild part of the storm hitting. Should be interesting. Less than half of the people are here at work, and it took me almost an hour just to get my car moving. Driving in was like driving in a ghost town.

I know we got just under an inch of ice, and parts north of the city got more like an inch and a half.

Not a horrible amount of snow. It's still coming down though. I can't back out of my driveway to go to work, so I emailed work (called in basically).

Of course my boss is being a **** right now - he only replied with "did you forget my phone number?".

Heh, in our last meeting I asked him if emailing him and the company HR would suffice and he said yes. I should have replied with "did you forget we discussed this?"

I am currently in Oklahoma City and the snowstorm here is similar to what came in December 2009. The snow itself is around 7 or so inches and continuing. Thanks to the wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, the snow drifts are easily over 2 feet in the south side of town. Drinking coffee, keeping the firewood burning and listening to Gary England (local weatherman) do coverage. Rounding up the friends for some all day Texas Hold Em and drink til you cant blink.

If the sport utes cant make it, some PS3 and black ops should suffice.

main roads are fine around here, just the neighborhoods are done. gonna go out and buy some salt here in a few and hope i can make it back up my driveway. the rusted out 93 s-10 stayed in the garage and is free of any ice, the neighbors with their brand new ford f-series trucks are apparently jealous as they shoot dirty looks over to me as they clean off the ice heh

I was listening to NPR this morning and they were interviewing the head of Streets and Sanitation for Chicago....Joey Bagadonuts or something.....about the upcoming storm. This guy, with the stereotypical Chicago accent, was already making excuses for the streets not be plowed...'Well, basically our trucks are at the mercy of rush hour traffic. We'll be stuck in the snow like everyone else...."
