They put new wiring, poles ect. in on my "line" all summer long..
I was cursing them the whole time until now!
Guess it is all paying off now!
17 degrees now, high winds (-1 tomorrow), and still have steady electricity!
Not even a "flicker" so far (knock on wood:cool:).

My power just came back on. I was without it for about 2 hours. In just that short time, it makes you appreciate things you take for granted.

It's sleeting like the f'n Devil right now... Looks like a fog outside, but it's all the sleet coming down. I'm not sure if you can say that it's "pouring down" sleet... but it is. Who knows what it'll do the rest of the night... I've got the heat in the bedroom cranked as high as I can stand it to sleep, so if the power kicks, I'll have a bit of a head start. Time for bed!

Yessir... Unfortunately, I have to go to work tomorrow regardless of the situation. I live a mile away from work, and we service salesfolk all over the Eastern seaboard. Not like the days when I worked for the local schools :frown:

This is ugly here! Lost power at about 9:00. I left work at 11:00, 2 hours early so that I could get the generator running. Some of the trip home wasn't bad, I ran 50mph. You just had to stay in the tire tracks. But the back roads, which is half my drive....nothing but a sheet of ice about an inch thick.

So, while I am attempting to drag the generator across the yard with the 4-wheeler, I hear all kinds of limbs crashing down in the woods around me. I think I even heard a few trees come down. Hellacious crack and crash. Off in the distance you could see the occasional flash. Assuming it was transformers going up in sparks. It has me nervous enough that I took the 4-wheeler and made a path into the field and moved the vehicles away from all the trees.

The Hickory dont worry me too much, they are pretty flexible, but this one Red Oak has a nice lean to it and it is close enough to catch the house. I can only hope that if it does come down it snaps off part way up the trunk rather than fall over intact.

At work again. Less than 50% of my associates are here, leaving those of us loyal enough to come in to pick up the slack as our reward for risking our hides.

Oh yeah. They're getting PTO for calling in, too. Awesome.

It's turning into sleet here (NE of Boston) and I hope the screened in porch can handle the weight on top of the 3 feet of snow we already have on that roof. The other parts of the house have steep enough slopes that they won't be a problem. We've got icicles all around the house, some 6 feet long.

I am working from home again today since my office is closed. My neighbor worked for an hour this morning trying to get the ice off his windshield and windows. I did not envy him at all.

Work is closed and my driveway is clear. (only about 45min - I love my snow thrower) I can drive back and forth in my driveway as much as I want.

Not a plow in sight though, so the 24" wall of snow at the end of my driveway will probably keep me off the streets for awhile.

Most of my friends and coworkers have been caught off guard by -4 wind chill. They don't have the attire to deal with such temperatures here in the DFW metroplex. I'm guessing folks are running to the local Dick's or Academy if they can get through the ice. If this keeps up, maybe LL Bean will open a store down here.

110+ in the late summer/early fall, -4 in the winter.
