Nerd rage aside, I am skipping the entire set and going with the Blu-Ray set of the original trilogy. I think the last three movies released are pretty awful.

$39.99 at Amazon for the original:

Yep, mine's coming standard super saver. So it's just a lottery which shipping point it's coming out of.

This reminds me of when I was a kid, the first star wars action figures were not out, you just bought a box with some pictures of what you will get later. It took a Millennium for them to come, but I was a happy kid when they did. I even remember which four: Leia, 3cpo, chewbacca and ..Luke Skywalker.

I'll pick up my set tomorrow after work at BB. Looks like I got one of the last sets in town. Every other store was out of stock.

Looking forward to seeing IV-VI on BD. Pod race on Ep. 1 should sound good as well.

That's the thing about the prequels, for all of their faults, they'll probably have some very demo worthy audio scenes.

Yeah, sucks that they don't include the 3 Blu-rays of special features with that though. Or at least the 1 that's specific to the original trilogy. Still, I guess that's the motivation for buying the whole shebang.

I got a $50 credit from Amazon for them **** up my Godfather order twice, so total price of the full set = $29.99 for me.

Mine shipped out nearby. Will be here tomorrow too. Good thing I'll have the place to myself in the evening. Been some time since I've had an excuse to give the system a full workout, starting with A New Hope.

$40 seems to be the going street price, at least for the moment. Most of the stores around me have it for $40, heading up to Fry's now to pick up a copy. I've never been a fan and have not seen these, but my wife loves them so we may end up watching all 3 today.

One of the biggest issues of contention with this set, however, will be the fact there is no new HD transfer for the films except The Phantom Menace, which means that, while this will be in high-definition, they're taken from the same transfer that was used to create the terrible 2004 DVDs. This essentially means that the films will not be presented in the best quality currently available and in use by practically every film that's been released on blu-ray for the last few years.http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Complete-Episodes-Blu-ray/product-reviews/B003ZSJ212/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar

Nuff said for me. There will next be a "Director's cut", uber high def set that has everything, including the original films along with the new 3D versions... I love Star Wars, and thought that George Lucas was a fu@#!ng genius. I couldm't wait fort the next film to come alomg. What he has done since the original films is make billions off their legacy by desecrating his classic work time and again, knowing that people will step up with thier money and buy it.

Lucas is 67 years old. Unless he's baking some clones at skywalker ranch, I'd say you've only got 5-10 years before he can't tinker with his films anymore and you get your classics restored to their former glory, so somebody else can make billions off his legacy. Then you'll only have to worry about what the reboot looks like.

If you think about it, that $40 price is kind of a ripoff. I mean... $40 for 3 discs... but $80 for 9. Since the individual trilogies come with none of the extra supplemental material, that's kinda' crappy. I guess either way, $13 per movie ain't half-bad... but they should have included the extras disc for each trilogy, considering they're broken down by trilogy in the Saga box set.

I'd hardly call $13 a movie a ripoff, especially for something along the order of Star Wars, a ripoff.

But then, based on your Netflix thread, obviously you and I have vastly different thoughts on the value of entertainment.

And keep in mind, I hate Star Wars

No no... I wasn't saying that $13/movie is a ripoff... I'm saying it's a ripoff that they don't include the extra disc of supplemental features with the individual trilogies, since that's a big part of the draw of the Saga boxset. Individual trilogy = $13/disc... Saga box set = $9/disc. I know they're trying to give people the incentive to buy the whole shebang, but they could have thrown the extra disc into the individual trilogies and just let the 9th disc be exclusive to the Saga box set. If you buy the individual trilogy sets, you get NONE of the additional archive material they unearthed for this release, which is just a shame.

Obviously, you don't care 'cause you hate Star Wars... but for someone who only likes the original trilogy, the only way to see the new material they've dug up is to buy all 6 movies, which is a crock.

Ordered mine today (the Saga) as well. I've loved Star Wars since I was a little kid - though I don't really get worked up too much about the changes. Either way, it's the only set of movies I can watch over and over. As long as the transfer to HD isn't noticeably subpar, I'm good.
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

Yeah, I don't really care about extras, so this makes infinitely more sense for me.

Still have another 4 hours or so before I can pick mine up. Have to drive to the BB on the far northern end of town and traffic usually turns the interstate into a parking lot on Fridays.

There's currently a 5+ mile backup going north..

I finished episode 4. I actually don't hate the movie as much as I thought I did, amazing what going in unbiased can do.

The audio and video are both top notch. I don't know if I'd rate the video as reference quality, but it's very well done. The effects are of course dated, but overall stood the test of time quite well. If it's not reference quality I couldn't explain why...

The audio, just wow!!! I cannot believe they were able to take a soundtrack that old and do such a great job with it.

We will probably watch the other two tomorrow, I can honestly say this is the first time I've ever looked forward to anything star wars.

    You guys wont be disappointed.

I plan on watching them in the correct order 1-6. I'm not a huge fan of starting in the middle of a story and then going back and explaining and filling in blanks.
I'm a huge star wars fan and have been all my life. I have seen all 6 movies in the theater on original release dates.
I think I might be mildly retarded as I have purchased every single version of Star Wars and if they release yet another version like Directors cut or what have you , I'll be compelled to go back and buy it yet again.
