Huh? Obviously you don't know much and have a lot to learn. LD may be obsolete, but it is in fact a very good format.

I should have put a smilie behind that, sorry, not trying to stir up a LD/DVD/BD debate.

I've got these on the way as well, shes never seen SW :eek:

She will love them, because I say so.

This is why I'm content with SD DVD. Get a good up-coverting player and solid HT... Save your $$$ on these ripoffs.

I just upgraded to a Pioneer BDP-95 and the first movies I popped in were Episodes IV and V, SD versions. Very impressive PQ and SQ, so I am on the fence about buying these.

It appears Lucas is playing the Devil's advocate on these which doesn't surprise me at all. Apparently, he is going to milk this for everything that he can.

One of the biggest issues of contention with this set, however, will be the fact there is no new HD transfer for the films except The Phantom Menace, which means that, while this will be in high-definition, they're taken from the same transfer that was used to create the terrible 2004 DVDs. This essentially means that the films will not be presented in the best quality currently available and in use by practically every film that's been released on blu-ray for the last few years.

Seems these are quite different from each other. The reviews over at the HTF are quite positive and the HD trailer's their showing make this set out to look nothing short of amazing.
I pulled this little tid-bit off HTF's site...

The movies are beautiful, they are pristine and will look great on the biggest high-definition display that people have in their homes. It's the way that families and fans really deserve to see the movies.

I've given up on ever seeing the original theatrical films. If they do ever come out I will buy the set but until then, I will own these. From all I've read they should look and sound awesome.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

I currently have Wookiegroomers 1080 bd50 versions for most of my star wars.. I think I have two of his BD25 versions. They have excellent video quality, but I believe they use the DVD audio.... from what I've heard, some of the mixing on the DVD audio track is extremely low quality.. it would be nice to get lossless audio, but I would still need something that can accept the signal.

All I want is a great picture with lossless audio. I like the movies, but am not going to obsess over every detail. However, if, by some chance, Princess Leia's slave girl skirt were to fly up I would be appreciative of that enhancement.

Typically, I agree but the problem here is that some of the changes don't appear natural. If they blend seamlessly with the rest of the film, no worries. But take for instance the change for ROTJ where the emperor screams "nooooo" as Vader throws him down the shaft - his lips clearly do not match. It just doesn't look right. As for Vader saying "no", the change is perfectly fine. Same as the ewoks now blinking - looks great, blends well with the rest of the scene. But like you mentioned, they're his movies and he can do what he wants with them. We have the "original" OT on dvd so I'm not going to complain too much.

Yes, but the DVD's are not anamorphic, not remastered and not better quality sound. So, why would I buy them over the laserdisc? Granted the resolution is slightly better on the DVD compared to the laserdisc. But, not enough to make me spend money for the DVD's. And the audio is absolutely so much better on the laserdiscs over the DVD that it I would never consider buying the DVD's just for that reason.

Seems I pre-ordered this yesterday and it was January; looking forward to get these!!!

I don't care about any changes. I don't own any version of any of the movies, so yeah, not a hard core fan.

But will watch these back to back.

This will be the first ting I have bought in a real store in a long time. Since they are being released on a Friday, I want to start watching that night. Pre-ordering means I would have to wait until the next Friday before I can start watching. These movies require being in the right frame of mind, and that is a Friday night activity.

Actually, most of the time when I pre order through amazon, they show up a day early, or the day of release.

I'm not hung up too bad on the changes George keeps making either, so long as my Pio Laserdisc player keeps working. I bought the Special Edition & Definitive Collection boxed sets when they were originally released, which I can play to get most of the original content. I would like to be able to somehow convert those LD's into DVD/Blu-Rays though, just for future compatibility when the LD player ultimately fails. I'll keep buying the different versions because my enjoyment of the movies supercedes the other factors for me.

I bought Episodes 4-6 on the original LD pressing in the late 80's, but they were lost in a fire :( I had begun looking for the most collectible original LD versions last year, but I lost the site which told me and I gave up looking for them.

I sort of draw the line at owners who change films they didn't direct. One of the reasons both the prequels and the changes may seem so out of place with characters developed in Empire and Return of the Jedi is that those two movies were not directed by Lucas. I just feel lucky that we got Empire in its original version instead of whatever Lucas would have created in its place.

Still, I think I'm going to get this set. Amazon just cut the price. And at a few bills over ten for each movie, what difference do a few scenes really make? In my opinion, I think Lucas still carries a grudge at being forced out of the director's chair for Empire, so I just don't think he'll ever give the same attention to the original versions no matter what the fans would prefer.

First review just went up: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-Wars-Blu-ray/14903/#Review

Glad to hear the audio is so solid for the original trilogy, especially after reading how they went back to the magnetic tapes for Star Wars and reconstructed the entire soundtrack digitally. Can not wait to hear that opening theme on my system this weekend! And the screenshots from the OT look AMAZING!

perfect like, "Yes. Hell yes. This is what sci-fi should sound like." Perfect as in completely exemplary in all the ways you'd hope they'd be. Superlative. Grade-A. Certified Gold.

If the audio really is this good, this alone would be worth the price of admission...not surprising since Lucasfilm seems to excel in sound design.

I would think that if you can invest the money and time to do it right, this is the only way to get a 1977 era sound track up to current blu-ray lossless standards. Especially since original analog elements can have better information in them than whatever lower level digital elements made it into the DVDs.

NOT happy with Lucas... he's messed with these movies too many times over the years. The movies I remember as a child are no more. I CANCELLED MY PRE-ORDER!!!!!! I hope others do the same, and opefully George gets the message. I would rate ZERO stars if I could. It's sad to think I will not own these on Blu Ray, I may not even rent them...

He may not even rent them!
