Trade up programs, depending on terms, might significantly cut into margins. Not many retail partners left for this line, so it would be up to Polk and what would they do with the older LSis, put them on PD? That's pretty labor intensive.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

I want a sturdy box that can be used for future shipping, a simple cotton sock to prevent them from being chaffed during shipment, and a simple owner's manual. If you want to send me a hat or t-shirt or pen that's ok but I would rather see the money go to a sturdy box.

Ever buy a car? All car manufacturers offer add-ons to customize, or improve the car. Everyone knows any product can be improved, especially if it is reasonably priced to reach a mass market.

While "good enough" is adequate for most people, why not help your customers who want to take the product to a higher level.
I know that add-ons are out there for everything....My point was that at a certain point, any manufacturer has to draw a line on what parts will be used to be able to fit in the pricepoint its product is aimed.

I don't think Polk has ever designed or released 'good enough' type of stuff.......they release fantastic sounding stuff at a pretty reasonable price....we all agree that Polk is a great bang for your buck company.

I completely agree with you about better components, spikes, cables, etc etc........but even using your car example.......out of the millions of cars sold, the percentage that are tweaked/customized/upgraded is relatively small.....so aiming for the small demographic (i.e. discount on upgraded feet) would mean that the customer is opening a box of 2k speakers and seeing the manufacturer say 'spend more'.........it's just a weird message to get after you've made your purchase IMO.

Every box/crate that any Polk speakers I've purchased always were very sturdy and heavy (like double boxing) and well padded. I still have them. Now unless things have changed in the past ten years since the LSi's came out I don't see a problem with their packing materials.

Actually, I'm in no position to answer the packing question that is why I stated I don't know about the packing practices in the past ten years. I have to admit that I've not purchased a new Polk product in many years. All my Polk products were bought used. However if this LSi that is coming out is what Mark and Al say it is and it stomps my 1.2TLs, I would do some serious saving up the moola to buy it new.

The lastest model of Polk product I have purchased was the RT2000Ps (they're so good that they are not going anywhere) and they were seriously boxed with every measure taken to ensure it's safe arrival. The boxes are in my shed.

Actually, I bought all new Polks between 2007 - 2009 and I can personnally attest that packaging is more than adequate. In 2008, I had Polk sent from out west to my location which is out east, the carrier has damaged the outer box and to my surprise NO damage to the inner box. I was worried about speaker damaged, I spent more time testing the 1 out of 4 speakers that had the damaged box and never had any issues. While the carrier seemed to have beaten the parcells, speakers were top notch, no issues what so ever. I like you prefer to keep the boxes for potential return or resale.

Such would have more likely to be built in to the price (never really get anything for nothing). I would prefer to get the lower price at checkout however, marketting wise it could definitely be good for Polk as it would entice for more sale.

Other than good sound, what would impress me is find that they come with a 10 year warranty to original purchaser from authorized retailer. And it would also impress me if they were actually offered in black; not ebony, not glossy piano black that already looks dated, but a real wood black veneer (assuming that solid wood is defunt becuse of both expense and manufacturing reasons regarding consistancy) and a black grill that has a subtle logo (or no logo at all). Looking forward to auditioning them.

Don't know about the packing part, but I like the idea of a trade-up program. Also like the test CD and wrench ideas.

Besides the obvious of good packaging, I really think John/Jane Doe would appreciate a demo cd of songs that they can pop in right after installation and hear the SQ of the speakers, to make themselves feel good about their purchase. This demo cd would also likely be used to show off the speakers to friends and get the Polk name out. Also, if the new LSi's have the same finish as the current ones, they really do get dusty and full of finger prints easily; a good cleaning rag included with the speakers would be a nice, personal touch and something the owners WILL keep and use long after the purchase, while reminding them that Polk does care about their customers.

As far as the other stuff mentioned, save the binding post wrench, I don't think the average consumer really wants all of that "swag". Pass on the savings and keep the cost/performance ratio high. That's what makes Polk what it is today. And darnit, make the speakers more easily accessible for demos lol.

An upgrade path to better components would get my credit card out of my wallet.

    Fast.

Otherwise I'm pretty happy with what I have.

Exciting Stuff. I have always had an eye on the LSi9's and almost bought a pair but the salesman in Tweeter talked me into the RTi10's instead. I have only heard the LSi9's in my house one snowy night thanks to Stu and Mark and again I heard the pair that were at the Capital Audio Fest again powered by Marks BBQ welder. I like them very much but I am intrigued by Marks comment at the beginning of this thread about how good this new series sound.

I like the Idea of a demo CD but that could be pretty involved to pull it off. Decent packaging is great but most people discard the packaging. However almost every review you read comments on the quality of the packaging and the initial appearance of the product.
