Most people throw away boxes and packaging day one. Make them good, but don't get crazy. A cotton, durable bag sounds great. Also the wrench, or a cool pen, key chain, etc. would be a great detail._________________________________________________

Foam injected packing material solves all kinds of issues, including the need for double boxing. As for that extra goodie, I don't think it is needed. The sound of the speaker is what counts and if they don't sound good, an extra goodie isn't going to help.Political Correctness'.........defined

I'll be hosting at-home demos and we've talked about this offline for almost a year or so. The jury is still out at the moment but it's something that has seriously been talked about.
IF you set up a in home demo program , I'd like to be first in line. I would love nothing more then to see polk improve over the current offering.
As far as what should be "in the box" I think just better packaging like a high quality sock over the speaker to protect it during shipping. Heavier higher quality foam and maybe double boxed like Dynaudio does.
Extra's I believe should be offered on the website after you purchase the speakers like a Polo shirt and hat. I do however like the idea of adding a Demo Cd in the box with the manual maybe with some tips on how to set them up , what kind of power requirement etc for the end user to get the most out of polk's hard work.
Where I work we basically are a speaker company first then everything else 2nd. I would love to take them in and demo them again others in their price class for a really good demo. I would spend a few days doing so. Of course I would write a detailed review of my findings.
Hey as you probably know I change out my speakers and gear all the time , this could be a new polk adventure. I'm so in.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Hoping for an updated appearance (WAF) and larger self powered subs in the LSI25 equivalent as my room layout requires it.

I like the idea of durable packaging--helps with initial shipping, retailer warehousing (safety of the contents) and IMO resale--Its always seems to be a bonus to have the orignal box when shipping rather than a makeshift one.
The boxes and styro my RM speakers came in was awful. I don't really care what the box looks like--I think glossy boxes look nicer in the stores when you're grabbing one of the shelf, but I also think about how much money went into that box (and not into the speaker). I think a durable box with durable packing material would be sufficient. Besides nobody is buying these off a shelf anyway right?
IMO SWAG if not done right is just a waste of money. Penlights, laserlights, t-shirts, keychains--no thanks.
Now an autographed something or other is kinda cool, but I would definately want Doro's over Matt's
I definately am a fan of a demo CD--perhaps hybrid CD/SACD--I have no idea what might be involved with someting like that, but heck even if Polk bought a ton of an already published works such as a Chesky CD/SACD, the bulk cost of something like that might be a drop in the bucket relatively speaking. Perhaps with some good music, test tones, speaker break in pink noise, etc.
I also like the idea of using premium components in the XO--I know its not swag but...
Also not swag but how about speakers that are already broken in? I mean there has to be some assemblyline way to put the drivers, tweeters and XO through some kind of burn-in no? Brand new speakers from the factory already broken in and ready to go? I'd be impressed--would that kind of thing appeal to everybody-I don't know but I thought I'd throw it out there.
What about a care kit--such as wood cleaner and polish, and maybe a stain marker appropriate for the finish purchased? That would be cool. I thought that it was cool when I got a nice little leather care kit with my leather sofa. Justa thought.
Or I know, a nice set of MIT cables.____________________

"Modular XO" would be nice. Like a plug in board or something. So you could solder up your own board or buy from those CP members more inclined to do so or even aftermarket companies could jump in. Kinda like free source computer code.

That is a stellar idea! -
How about a letter to my wife explaining that I really am not crazy for spending all that money for new speakers especially if she is insisting that I get rid of the RTA11TL's 'cause they take up too much space.
Oh yeah, throw in one of those Polk Audio history books and a T-shirt too.
And I could probably use a good amp to power them too.
Merry Christmas

Jim - Unsure but I was going to hit you locals up offline when I'm ready.
I really can't think of anything that 'impresses' me more than the product itself....the fit and finish, heft and wood veneers. Don't know what 'more' one would be seeking! Perhaps a FREE extended warranty..to 7 years? Not much cost there and beats the industry standard of 5?
Also, do we or can we have any info on pricing. In other words, will the new LSis be commenurate in pricing with their predecessors or should we expect an increase in costs! Also a bit factor in 'sales'!
Finally, are these the LSIs that you guys demoed at CAA??

Fantastic idea. To add to it a bit, how about a second set of cloth grills? Maybe have the second set in a different color, but even if they are the same color, having a second set would help months or years down the line if they're not taken care of perfectly. I've seen a lot of loudspeakers with snags and small rips in the cloth grills. My own Monitor 5's are missing a bit.polkaudio Monitor 5 Series II

Hello Kab. How about a CD that explains how to properly set up the speakers for maximum listening pleasure that includes Pink Noise for each channel. If you could wing it, include a couple of carefully selected, well recorded songs that showcase the best of what these speakers have to offer. I would also include a "briefing / education" that explains to the buyer what type of amplification is needed to properly power the new purchase as well as an introduction to join us all here at Club Polk for further audio advice if needed. Wrap that in velvet with the Polk logo.

i think this should be bare minimum and it shouldn't cost much to boot. -

Personally speaking, I prefer functional things.
Discounts on additional purchases are great.
If it is aesthetic, Polk may want return to adding Matthew Polks signature on the speaker. Its a nice look and for me it conveys the pride of the manufacturer.
Also, a dedicated landing page with video and insightful information about why these speakers are so special.
I also agree with the more durable packaging that others have described. Part of the excitement of these speakers should be the ability to trade them for years to come.

The suggestions so far are great. I agree with most, a sampler CD to test the speakers, a tool to tighten the binding post, but also something incorporated to remove those pesky red and black plastic plugs from the binding post. All packaged in a microfiber bag that doubles up as something that can be used to wipe off the dust from the speakers.

I think velvet bags and all those type of things are fluff. IMHO, the money is better spent on good binding posts, better quality croosover components and good spikes (Hmm a cooperative deal with Mye-sound sounds good to me). I think the way they sound and look is much more important than T-shirts and all the SWAG suggested.
A very detailed user manual would be a good idea for setup and care.
One last thing, Ricardo said that most people discard the box and packing material. That may be true for the masses but I've always kept and keep all boxes that come with my gear. It makes it easier to move speakers when necessary and is a good reselling point.
I think Polk always did a good job in packing their products so I don't think there is a need to sink money into that.
Are these the LSi's I was reading about a while ago that incorporate some sort of SDA or similar technology? I would definitely like to hear them at the authorized Polk B & M dealer I frequent. If they can do what my SDA's can and more then I would seriously consider start saving for a pair. -
Spittin distance is pretty close. How about some details; price range, models, date available, etc. I am thinking of replacing my HT front LSi15s with PSB Synchrony Ones. Will the new speakers be at that performance level, but, hopefully, not price level. Is it worth waiting?
I have demo'ed and listened to quite a bit of PSB and Polk gear. Currently, my HT is a PSB set-up (entry level Image series, but I have listened to and demo'ed their mid level lines as well). Personally, I would take the LSi series any day of the week over PSB offerings. The price difference is pretty staggering, unless you have a great hook-up with a PSB dealer. The one thing about PSB is that replacement parts are quite expensive and shipping is a killer because they are in Canada, obviously. Their customer service is great, their line-up is nice and I really enjoy my set-up, but all things equal if I had to do it over again, I would definitely get Polk.
Just my .02.

I'm with HI on this one. I mainly want a really great set of speakers in the box, along with top-notch accessories and a good manual. I have enough t-shirts, and there is lots of stuff out there for calibrating a system.
