It's a nice design. It is not to my liking total expected something different. Not so plastic.
I will wait for my dealer has them and I will see if the sound exceeds LSi. I have doubts about the effect of oval speakers ....
You are misguided! You haven't seen them in the flesh nor heard them and aleady you have your biases.
You are misguided.
Come back after you have spent some quality time with the real thing and then, and only then, will your babbling have any meaning.
Unless of course you have heard and seen them aleady.

I REALLY dig the look of these new LSi's. A LOT!! Some damn sexy speakers if I may say so.
I haven't read back through all the pages that I've missed...but is there any word on rough pricing for them yet?
I can't wait until all you people start buying the new LSi's, cuz then I'll be able to buy your old LSi's for dirt cheap!!:DThe nirvana inducer-

thank you for literally contributing nothing to this thread whatsoever, you're a peach
Thanks ...
The truth is no one can say about the sound with a photo.
You say that you hear the sound of a picture, I congratulate you. -

I don't believe anyone has said anything about how they sound other than Doro (Mark) as he's the only one that has heard them. Actually you are the only one questioning how they sound."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. $3000 and $4000/pr for the floor standers, not sure on the bookshelf type.

theres no doubt that OVAL geometry distorts sound, but they cannot be detected with human ears at lower frequency range.
the benefit of using OVAL geometry, my guess would be: gives more surface area(thus more bass) while keep the cabinent narrow, a narrow cabinent is good.
personelly i prefer the old LSI looking too. the new design is not bad, but lack of conceptual clearity - too many ideas being squeeze together.
and the woofer material doesnt look good even POLK argues they are the best material they have found.
still exciting news though, i may consider the bookshelf version as my next audio investmentFront: Martinlogan ESL

Most of that has already been mentioned previously and drivers can be tweaked and re-engineered. This isn't the racetrack woofer of the 1970's.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
And please disregard that pic with the wrong cones. See my post.
-
It would also be cool comparing them directly to my vintage 2001/2002 LSi-9's. You know, the ones that were made in Mexico, sport the light cherry veneer and cool bezel top. Talk about going 'full circle' eh?
Wow. That's when I started working here. Been here 10 years on 8/28. -
I gotta admit - I like the silver cones better???
Go figure - everything doesnt HAVE to be black.
Although I will most likely buy them used, over the next few years I could see myself picking up a set of those bookshelf speakers- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Josh great work if you had a hand in the design!
I love the top of these too, no longer will one have to fear having a drink placed on your speaker....your floor will now hate you...no white carpet..
and thanks for the info Mark with the power ports, I really dig it. -
No design work but building the prototype from scratch was a challenge. The sonic prototypes or "mules" as we call them were built with removeable front baffles so we could modify the internal structues, port lengths, etc. Mules are just for testing so they're just bare MDF.

I may be wrong but I believe that was one reason for the curved top.
I invite you to check out the .pdf's from Mark with all the tech write ups. Great read. -
Damn. Why is there so much in-fighting on this forum? Sometimes it is good to be new(me) to something to keep it in perspective. You would think that a newly revised product line would create excitement, not character attacks,etc..Everyone on this board has a right to express their opinion within reason.Until this new series get out in the mainstream we only have aesthics to make judgement on.I myself had visions on what the new LSI's would look like.Who didn't? Usually a first response is an emotional one and it is evident here.I am not trying to make waves or start a debate on anything.I am going to wait like everyone else to hear them and pass judgement then.I don't buy audio equipment for anyone but myself so far be it from me to try to presuade or disuade(spelling?) another person on their purchases.I truly can't wait to see and hear this new line by Polk Audio. Is it that hard to turn the other cheek and simply ignore a comment you do not like on this board? Regards, Eddie Kryk

Looking at the life pictures - mid-range woofers are gray in color and not light-gray shiny like in the "official" picture, which looks computer generated to me. Metal logo looks really nice - it's also looks different from the official picture.
Can anyone at Polk comment which one will be in the final design?
I personally OK with either logo, as long as it's in good taste and metal. If it was my choice, for midrange color I would stick with Polk Blue
This is a signature color for me when it comes to Polk, kind of like everyone associates yellow Kevlar cone with B&W.
Of course in the end, it's the sound that matters. -
See my post.

They are absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to see & hear them. Congrats Polk.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

guys, don't listen to the bad mouthting, you guys have some to be proud of! chapeau Polk Team!!!DARE TO SOAR:

I bet they'll image like a SOB."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Nobody but Mark (Doro) has claimed that they sound amazing, he points out he intends to buy some, I guess that should count for something until we get our own audition ,right?
You could probably bet that these are going to sound fantastic. Of course, people's tastes vary and are subjective. However, Polk is an industry leader in speaker design so I am sure they know what they are doing. I am sure they wouldn't raise the MSRP and list these as LSi replacements without having confidence that the sound is worthy of the series name and price.
Also, although I don't know Doro personally, his comments on this forum suggest that he has an experienced, refined, and unbiased opinion, even though he's is a Polk employee.
So unless both Polk and Doro both took the crazy train, these are going to sound fantastic. -
It's hard to find a good balance here between the people who just want to **** about something and the royal suck ups who think they'll be allowed to keep a set of these like it was a Hitmaster.
-
No in between eh, Demi?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

There are, just not enough of them posting.

I think both sides of the argument suck. How 'bout that, Demi?:)
   -
Wait, which side am I on?
Sorry if paying a compliment to someone who's posts I found helpful is considered "sucking up". For the record though, I did criticize the look of the black version but think the cherry version is quite nice. So does that make me fair and balanced? -
I bet they'll image like a SOB.
Honestly what polk mid to high end speaker have you heard that didn't? I think all the RT RTi RTIA etc do as well as all the LSI's current.
I'm sure they didn't lose that , if they did they would be lacking a signature polk sound.
I'm eager to hear a pair. They look great.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
