OK, for now, it's still a rumor. However, signs are pointing to this rumor being realized this coming June, including pre-orders being taken at Amazon Jp and HMV Jp. Anyway, the below translation pretty much sums up all that's available right now....

Fantastic album! I will definately get this one on SACD. The drums at the end of the title track are worth the price alone!

More and more signs the Japan Universal Music single-layer SACDs are real. In fact, looks like these SACDs will be SHM-SACDs. SHM stands Super Hard Material, a new material used to make optical discs. It was previously used to make SHM CDs.

The pop/rock SHM-SACDs have just been listed on sa-cd.net

Single-layer means there's no CD layer. With a hybrid SACD, there's a CD layer and a SACD layer. Therefore, 2 layers at the most on any SACD. On the SACD layer, it can contain a 2 channel stereo section, or if available, a separate multi-channel surround section.....a single-layer SACD can be stereo only, or with separate multi-channel surround mix.

In its early days, at least in the US, some SACDs were single-layer stereo only. These titles were later reissued as single-layer stereo and multi-channel surround. And certain SACD titles were even reissued a third time as hybrid SACD by adding the CD layer. For example, Toto IV (the hybrid SACD of Toto IV was only released in Europe).

Are you sure about that? Both SRV (Texas Flood/Couldn't Stand the Weather), Boston, Santana Abraxas, Blood Sweat and Tears, Toto Hydra, the Police catalog, most of Peter Gabriels catalog are SACDs that I have that I'm not aware that were ever issued in MC...only single layer stereo. In Japan maybe?

I ended up placing my order with http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/ as I already had an account with them. However, Danny assured me that HMV Jp is excellent.

Actually, there are plenty of single layer m-ch releases:
Acoustic Sounds has a handy catagory system for SACDs.

I've been a cdjapan member for years & have ordered many items from them. Great experience.

cdbanq has a perfect feeback rating in the thousands on ebay in addition to their online shop.

P.S. I ordered The Who & The Police from cdbanq. They have cheaper shipping rates for registered airmail.

This one might be questionable. cdbanq has it as a SACD, but some sites say it's just SHM-CD??

Since these SHM-SACD's were announced, I've been reading what folks have to say on some of the other audio sites and I have to admit that I am taken back at the amount of pessimism. Bitching about the cost, that they are 2 channel only, how the shipping from Japan costs too much, that maybe some of the tapes aren't the original masters and on and on and on. You'd think that folks would be jumping for joy that some rock/blues were being released again by one of the major labels. Lord knows, I am.

For anyone that's on the fence, according to CDJapan a lot of these are selling out fast. For example, on their site there are only 3 The Allman Brothers Band/At Fillmore East left to pre-order.

These are very limited releases. If you don't get one now, chances are you never will or at least not without forking over a lot more than they are going for now. Hence, my previous post.
