Well there's more money I'll have to spend Jesse, but it will be worth it and a pleasure for this album.:D Thanks for the listening impressions.

Greg, they are worth twice the price.....at least.

I got Dire Straits as well, but I ran out of time tonight.

Where did you get your copy? I was looking at CD Japan. They had the cheapest price I could find. Do you know of somewhere cheaper?

SHM-SACD Dire Straits - Dire Straits.

I'm very disappointed with this one. Too loud, too hot and too much hiss. Two thumbs down.

Sorry to hear about the Dire Straits SACD. You can probably sell it pretty easily though (it might have to be on another site though).

That is too bad, it was one I was interested in. Though in the long run I'm sure there will be a few of the SHM sacds that don't meet expectations.

That's a real shame as the regular SACD and the heavy vinyl versions are really IMHO reference material and sound as clean and natural as a digital master can sound.

No, there is not. Joe is confusing this one with Brothers In Arms.

Got my Steely Dan Aja SACD!

Overall, I really really like the SQ on this.

    Sonically clean, quiet, and detailed.

I was hearing nuances not heard before.

And, it could be my previous TT setup, but I always thought the cymbal crashes on the track Aja were saturated to the point of distortion. Not so on the SACD.

But, is it just me, or I thought the track Deacon Blues seemed a bit too 'laid back' compared to the surrounding tracks?

    Otherwise - stellar mix!

I have several copies of different vinyl pressings of Aja ranging from mass produced to MFSL Original Master Recording to 30th anniversay heavy vinyl among others. They all have a different presentation.:)

I am happy to say I disagree Jesse. I think the format allows for more flaws (of the original recording) to be revealed. Overall I was pleased. There was at least one track where I felt the vocal was poorly recorded but comparing it to my original release CD, it was just a bit more obvious. I think this is at least worthy of the purchase.

"Who's Next" was a definite home run. This is the first digital copy of this I have owned and the first time I have listened to it in many years. What a treat.

I read your post and played Dire Straits again. I found that if I kept the volume levels under 90dB that it wasn't too bad. Over that and it starts to fall apart. What level did you listen to it at?

That's very interesting guys. I have a "Best of" Dire Straits" the politically correct version UGH! and I had the same experience as above but just thought it was me. I don't know if the decibel level was below 90 dB or not but it does sound strident, glassy, and rough at my normal listening levels. It sounded sterile to me also.

I was listening at a fairly low volume. Certainly less than 90db. Probably mid 80's.

    I sure hate to think it isn't crank-able :(

Man I hate when that happens. Just off the top of my head I have the Spirit LP, "The Twelve Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus" which was water damaged and got moldy. I restored it and it was playable. GREAT FRIGGIN ALBUM btw, but at loud volumes, nails across a black board, Jesse experienced that. Thank Goodness that Larry, (analog97) had a spare copy and that baby just rockes at 103 to 110 dB!!!!

BTW fellas that "Best of" disc I spoke of is an XRCD so I was shocked! I've a few XRCDs and played them on my multi-format player and they do sound nice but this one YUCK-A-ROONY!

Yes indeed my friend.:) Like I said above I was really pissed off that it was the politically correct version (which was never stated anywhere in the ad or on the CD insert) and was surprised how I could tolerate it at lower volumes but when cranking it . . . UGH!

This looks like a nice SHM-SACD sampler and it comes with a regular hybrid SACD version of the same tunes to compare.

    http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=UIGY-9036

    And it costs $16.79 :)
