Wow!!! I'm very surprised as my redbook copy of Paranoid I received from yourmusic.com two years ago is absolutely superb! I can only imagine what the SACD sounds like!

I will definitely get on the list for this release.

The redbook CD is pretty good.

It really is a matter of the mixing.

I got the 180g LP mix of "Master of Reality" - and was not all that impressed.

    I found this interesting.
The new releases come with a little survey postcard where you can recommend new titles for SACD. Also, it says that people who submit the survey will have a chance to win an SACD sampler. Of course it's all in Japanese, so if you don't read the language, you'll have to guess where to suggest new titles. Have fun.

At least they are asking even if it is only in Japanese.

Don't we have members here who are fluent in Japanese? I'm sure we do. Perhaps one could send them the card and translate it then post a pdf in English.

Apparently my "Dire Straits" shipped today. I am thinking of ordering one of these a month for as long as I can and/or they run out of titles I want.

This is not an inexpensive endeavor.

    Who's next
I gave it a listen last night and I just can't see anybody not enjoying this disc.
I was just going to run through the highlights before dinner and ended up sitting through the whole disc. One of the posters on another site did mention the first eight tracks were a bit laid back compared to "Won't get fooled again" (and it was explained on another site that that track was recorded in an other studio) and they are , ever so slightly, but again that has everything to do with the original tape. Jesse, based on the demo of your "Wish you were here" disc on your system I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed. This Who's next disc is supremely "crankable" (as it should be) and still smooth in presentation (the cymbals/drums are the best IMO of any version available) Man, I can only wish that they could pull strings and grab "Quadrophenia" that and the perpetually put off "Wish you were here"

Addendum: I did forget to include that detail is on this disc in spades, I noticed
Entwistle's bass runs on some tunes that I just simply don't remember hearing as clearly on vinyl (Brown label Track and Classic reissue) or redbook(even the Hoffman redbook)

I just ordered 'Who's Next". I could not resist after reading DAGLJAM6's impressions.

Was disappointed to see that "Let It Bleed" is OOS. I guess I'm SOL. :(

However, I noticed one thing within the packaging - the caption of "DSD transferred from analogue master tape by Jon Astley at Close To The Edge Mastering - Twickenham Middx London"

    Hey Kev,

I don't know if this will interest you but there's an LP done in DSD of "Let it Bleed" available on heavy vinyl (HQ-180 gm). It is superb and sounds like an SACD. I.e., weight of music, fine detail and inner detail and awesome decay & bloom, everything that is SACD.

    http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/12495/The_Rolling_Stones-Let_It_Bleed-180_Gram_Vinyl_Record

The only thing it lacks compared to an analog LP is that sense of open & airyness which to my ear all SACDs lack when compared to their analog brethren.

    BTW; it is dead quiet!

    Thanks Joe!
To be honest, I have actually purchased a TT (Technics 3350 for next to nothing) but I don't have a phono pre so I have yet to spin any vinyl. I need a cart too so...

But thanks for the heads up. :)

I just got done listening to the SHM-SACD of Who's Next and also compared it to the Steve Hoffman Redbook version. The SHM-SACD wins, it's simply more organic. I also agree with Dave, highly crankable. :D
