How much for you to come to Miami and build mine out?:D

Lodging will be fine; will work from 8 AM to 10 AM and rest from the hard work lying at the beach the rest of the day. Sounds fair????

Just lookin' out for you, but sounds like you've considered the pros and cons for your particular situation.

By the way, you probably know that a sanding sponge can be used to eliminate/minimize the dust generated by normal sanding. I hate sanding too!

Looks good Ricardo! You did a pretty good job for an engineer!;) I hear you about the drywall work. It helps if you have a friend or someone with those plaster skills. Are you going to get some Day-Glo paint and some black lights?:D Put up some posters of Janis Joplin and Iron Butterfly. Turn on the Electric Prunes music and light up a . . . . nevermind. I'm still stuck in the early '70's.

    Ok; here goes an update.

I painted the ceilings and put some crown moldings; I had a very hard time with the tapered edges...didn't think I would (Yes...I'm stubborn....). It looks really good though, and what you see is effect of the flash; in normal light it looks pretty uniform.

    IMG_3456.jpg

    IMG_3457.jpg

So....I decided to mud the walls; just enough to cover screws/edges, but without the need of sanding. I also built the sump pump enclosure and the "dummy" on the other side. I will make the covers with plywood and stain to match the speakers.

    IMG_3458.jpg

    IMG_3459.jpg

Next step: flooring and base board, then paint the walls. I'm using the same laminate I used for the rest of the basement....but I don't have enough, and the finish was discontinued, so I bough a lighter one and will have to combine them. Should look good.....

Not sure I'll finish on target; this weekend is Chicagofest

Ricardo, you might have had a hard time with the tapered edges if your walls aren't straight;)

Seriously, looks good! I liked those corner blocks because you don't have to do the compound cut on the molding. A little caulking cleans up everything nice:)

Flooring set. Next steps...base boards (I hate cutting those corner angles  ), paint the walls, get the gear in here and start playing with room treatments.

You're going to totally hate yourself for putting down the floor before you painted :)

But at least you won't have to do quarter round in addition to the baseboards.

The only reason I am doing it this way is that I'm using textured paint; putting the base board over textured paint would be a pain...I'd rather tape the BB and put up lots of plastic film to cover the floor :)

Putting up laminate flooring is VERY easy; this room had only a couple of tricky cuts, so I spent maybe 3 hours total.
