    A Bendix JAN-CEA-6106 is another great tube for the Dared. The 1950's Brimar was the best for my Dared.

    I have a NOS Brimar 5Z4G with a perforated anode, Coming next week hopefully. Plus it came with a brimar rectifier. for 12 AT7's it came with a set of mullards. I have purchased a pair of Rca black plates, the platinum raytheons, a pair of Siemens Halske Branded raytheon and I just bought a pair of Rca 12AT7WA black plate 3 mica's. It's fun to try the different combinations of tubes. To see what sounds best with what music! It is way too easy to buy tubes. Some of the prices are pretty crazy. But you can find good deals if you look around. Fortunately the Dared only has 3 tubes lol.

    Brimar CV 1863 black plate from the early 50's Footscray plant. Brown base w/writing on the base is by far the best rectifier for the Dared SL2000

    Nice! Those triple mica black plates are awesome! I just got a pair of RCA 12AT7WA triple mica black plates. I'll have to look into that bendix rectifier.

    1950 Brimar 5z4g black plate. I got two of these during covid from Australia both N.O.S.
    This thing is a beast, it's twice the weight as the brown base on the right

    The 1950 Brimer (left) is much sweeter on the ears than the later brown based version on the right. The weight tells the difference, thicker glass and heavier plates and guts.

    I guess I don’t know what I’m doing when I’m posting multiple pictures. I kind of smucked that one up!
    The Brimar came with the Dared I picked up the RCA Jan Crc 5v4G a couple of weeks ago pair as well with my RCA 12AT7 black plates and the third, I just picked up the other day. I haven’t had much of a chance to break it in yet. I’m looking forward to some nice tube rolling to see what pairs up best with the 12AT7’s. But I’m sure my wife is not looking forward to that. That’s just too bad.

    I haven’t got a chance to roll many tubes with that one yet. It paired up really well with the RCA triple Mica black plates I have. I have a pair of Mullards that came with it that I haven’t tried yet. I have a pair of platinum Raytheon 6414 triple Mica’s that really sound really deep and wide. I just love how you can totally change your sound. Trying to figure out which combinations sound best with different types of music!

    The early 50's Brimar had the deepest more organic bass texture and widest sound staging compared to anything, including the Bendix 6106. The 6106 is so cool to look at though.

    All the other 50's rectifiers are great, but the Brimar is the King in the Dared SL2000, IMO.

    I kept one in my stash (always keep some of the rarer hard to find tubes for a rainy day or if you run across gear in the future) I also kept 2 of 3 Mullard 5AR4's (older f31 Fat Bottle and newer f32 5 notch standard bottle)

    I bought this for use as a pre-amp, which uses a 5Z4P. I put in the trusty Brimar CV1863 and it sounded excellent. Put in the Mullard f32, 5 notch 5AR4 (GZ34) and it is sublime!

    I don't suggest using a GZ34/5AR4 in the Dared. The moral of the story is, trying different tubes can be a revelation. What works well in one scenario doesn't always work the best in another. I could easily live with the Brimar, but after hearing the Mullard I won't go back.

    1950 Brimar rectifier
    Very early NOS Brimer triple mica 6060 black box plates. Uber rare!
    The soundstage is pin point accurate and wide.

    Actually I was mistaken. I am getting a NOS pair of 1954 CV455 smooth anode, horse shoe getter made in Eindhoven Holland w/Mullard label.

    And a pair of NOS 1956 Brimar CV455, 3 mica, black box plate, double post square getter KB/FB date code ^MC

    If you are in need of true NOS 12AT7, ECC81, CV4024, CV455, etc. I have a source. They aren't cheap, but they aren't uber expensive either. PM me
