Yes, amusing...sorry. But I still don't see the humor - it's clearly badgering, and trying to make at least three forum members look foolish for even buying the product."This may not matter to you, but it does to me for various reasons, many of them illogical or irrational, but the vinyl hobby is not really logical or rational..." - member on Vinyl Engine

The Puritan 156. Lots of ferrite core filters. Clean layout. What's up with those weird socket covers?

I would assume they use those covers to lower EMI interference. Or just to keep dust out.Dan

I use Surge X in a lot of my jobs and they make exceptional products. Furman is also very good but they still use MOV technology.

Hmmm...no covers and the receptacles are not on a strange angle.

So, it appears Puritan is an English company, which may explain, in part, the reason for the covers. They have a paranoia about people sticking stuff where it doesn't belong. For example, they are the reason a lot of speakers come with their binding post banana holes plugged with plastic caps.
Another possibility is the covers are an attempt to keep out EMI/RFI, although it seems not all of their products have the covers, which sort of shoots down that theory.
It also appears all of their units come with 20 amp IEC sockets, but are restricted to a 15 amp maximum load, which is a bit odd.

Mystery solved. After a bit of digging those outlets are British waterproof panel or wall box mount outlets. Perhaps they got a good buy on them?
-
That they’re installed upside down is still … amusing, I suppose.
Good eyes...I didn't notice that. -

Also following as while I have a Furman AC-215A on my modest 2 channel setup (and a whole home protector at the junction box), I’d like to ensure my Pathos (and wiim) stay safe.
And while I’d love to run a dedicated line as it shares a wall with my garage, that’s just not gonna happen unless @lightman decides to make a house call out here again and then I’d also have maxed out my box with 4 dedicated lines to my audio stuff lol…
So for now it shares a line with other devices which includes a light/fan combo I believe and a coupe small floor lights."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." The power here has always been consistent with few fluctuations. It’s only a recent electric supplier monopoly issue, where power is lost for no apparent reason like on a clear blue day… It’s unbelievable.
This won’t help the lack of power but if you have power fluctuations, I’ve been very pleased with my PS audio P 10 regenerator …..it’s an older model that maybe close to 10 years old. I bought for $2800 and MSRP was 5K.

Has anyone ever heard of this one? Comes from Japan but I find zero information on it. There is one on Ebay, listed in Japan for 17K!

Zero information and yet, someone is already putting it up for sale? That raises a flag for me. YMMV.

Apparently, they have deep ties to Esoteric/TEAC. They also produce a wide range of cables and such. The Audiogon seller is someone I have known and done business with in the past. This thing looks to be in the same league as Esoteric in terms of build quality.
If he is willing to let me give it a demo run in my rig, I might give it a go and see how it shakes out.The Gear... A demo run in your own system would be worth it. Otherwise? A hard pass IMO only.

Doing a search for Acrolink isolation transformer, which is what it is, turns up all kinds of info including their website.
I've dealt with Weinhart, standup dude, but I'd pass on the Arcolink due to the voltage situation.
-
According to the seller, this is a US spec unit... just really confused by what this does vs some others. I was able to find a 1 paragraph review snippet that gave it very high praise. The Gear... An isolation transformer has two sets of windings, so there is no direct electrical connection between the input and output. The SDA Dreadnought is an isolation transformer, but with a different purpose than the Arcolink.
You can search isolation transformer to read about the advantages and disadvantages.
The bottom line, it's sort of a power conditioner and sort of a surge protector, but only sort of. -

Our PS Audio P1000 PowerPlant was $3500 in the early 2000's, in comparison the prices of the P15 & P20 are bargains.

I’ve been experimenting with power solutions for a while, and honestly a good voltage regulator / conditioner can make a noticeable difference, especially with tube amps and sensitive sources like your Moon 680D.
If you’re looking at Shunyata, you’re already in the right zone — their Hydra and Denali lines are solid. They don’t choke dynamics like some cheaper conditioners, and noise reduction is great. Another brand worth considering is PS Audio (since you’re already using their AC5 cables). Their Power Plant regenerators aren’t cheap, but they actually rebuild the AC waveform, so they provide very stable power under load. For big amps like your Carver monoblocks, it’s one of the best options.
If you want something more budget-friendly, Furman Elite or Reference series are also reliable. They’re not as “audiophile-marketed” as Shunyata, but they offer excellent surge protection and voltage regulation without killing dynamics.
With your system, I’d put the monoblocks and the C2800 on the best regulator you can afford, and the AVR + sources on a secondary conditioner. The TV doesn’t need anything fancy.
TL;DR:
– Top pick: PS Audio Power Plant (best stability + performance)
– Great option: Shunyata Denali
– Value option: Furman Elite/Reference
Power is definitely the most overlooked part of a setup — upgrading it was one of the biggest “quiet improvements” I ever made. -
The regeneration isolates all noise from the wall outlet.
Neat thing about the older PS Audio PowerPlants are the ability to exeperiment with the output frequencies.
Folks with tube gear really like that ability.
Plus, they have just filtered outlets for amps that don’t restrict current. -

With all due respect, I will beg to differ with you on this one. That's marketing BS. Even PS Audio has stated this. Even with galvanic isolation, some noise still gets through. Don't get me wrong, both help but both still allow noise to get through.

Yep, those PS Audio regenerators just regenerate much of the noise in a nice sinusoidal wave.skipshot12 wrote: »The regeneration isolates all noise from the wall outlet.

Agree Tom. I think the only way to remove all is maybe like the old Richard Gray power plants. They took AC converted it to DC before sending out as AC once all the garbage was removed. Something about the conversion removed or the DC was hostile to it.
