This is player number two that I got on eBay to replace the identical player that was originally deemed not worth fixing. It worked, but had a noisy picture. So I brought it to the shop along with the disassembled first player in case he needed parts. Now that he had both to use as a template, he wound up fixing both players. Turns out it was the lubricants that they used for the transport mechanism which harden over the years. When I went to pick them up the first player worked just fine. This one also worked, but even though the video noise had been reduced, it was still noticeable. So I took the first player home and left this one at the shop.
It’s hard to believe this entire journey began two or three years ago.

Hey, heeeeyyyyyyy someone who makes and sells Dolby AC-3 RF demodulator boards that you can install in your older (pre 1995) Laserdisc player and FINALLY get 5.1 channel Dolby AC-3 (Dolby Digital) IF you're handy with a soldering iron and following instructions.

Admittedly unless you're a geek, this video is boring as H E double hockey sticks.
I still wish @VR3 would post a video like this of him building one of his infamous and excellent crossovers (*hint, hint*)

Please take note.
Once you install the board and the RCA jack to output the RF modulated AC-3 signal in your player. Now you need to have an AC-3 RF demodulator to demodulate the signal and then send the raw AC-3 digital signal to your receiver or preamp to decode.
This might seem obvious to some.
That, however ain't everyone!
No judgements here.
IF you would want to take on such a project I would STRONGLY SUGGEST you do this sort of thing to a player that has been properly serviced and is in good operating order. Also one that you plan on keeping for the long haul. He has instructions for a host of players (big shock most of them Pioneer) but some of the less expensive players may not be worth the effort.
This is of course a value judgement that will change from one person to the next. -

Just found this one of a guy who purchased the AC-3 RF mod elsewhere and decided to post a video of it being installed. He said because there weren’t any out there. -
I finally decided to hook up my second Laserdisc player and it works. The video noise issue is not gone, but much better than it was previously believe it or not.

Ironically the first player that I have had for years is two months younger than the second player. -
When the transport flips over to play side two the video is definitely cleaner

Sold the second player to my old boss from back when we worked together at the turn of the century doing this stuff.
