Merry Christmas HE. I see the box of Kleenex by it so it must be
    tough on you. :p

I had one of these a stupidly sold it.
Eventually, I found a DVL-90 at a good price and have been
using it off and on. (mostly off)

Sorry for your loss @honestaquarian :/

While we're on the subject, though, does anyone have an interest in laser discs for the Eagles, "Hell Freezes Over", or Grateful Dead's, "Downhill From Here" (Alpine Valley)? I stumbled across these discs in my dad's collection, but don't have a player or other use for them.

  • @jdjohn Thanks for the sentiment. Not a loss, just a temporary setback. Is the Eagles disc DTS?

    It is not DTS.

  • @verb Again it's not done just yet. I'm watching some auctions on eBay for parts for this player and also talking to some in the know about it. I found out about a problem with the DVL series players with the side two skip issue that I had with my DVL-919 that apparently is very common. Turns out a screw on the transport comes loose. Also the power board going bad is another issue with these players. It's a switching power supply because of the fact that the players play Laserdiscs, DVD's and CD's.

Doesn't look so big when you take a pic of it. So I put my hand in for perspective. This is the switch mode power board for a DVL-909/919/DVL91.
I have to get it to the shop so they can put it in and hope for the best.

For the tech geeks out there, it's kinda interesting how all the caps that I can see are Nichicon and Elna.

Do you know if it was freshly re-capped prior to making its way to you? If not, you may consider having that done prior to having it installed…

@daddyjt To the tune of three to four hundred bucks according the shop tech. Then he went on a rant about how the forums ALWAYS talk about recapping everything....................

@honestaquarian you still in the laserdisc game?
My DVL90 is strobing the picture like an old time movie.
    Works great otherwise. :#
    Any thoughts?

I'll probably pack it in when it dies... :(

Woot! reworked the connections and bingo!

@SIHAB From what you posted above it reads like you may be having video cable issues.
Have you tried swapping video cables?
Or switching from the S-Video to the Composit video (or vice-versa) in addition to swapping cables to see if the problem persists?

No not yet. Good idea to try some different cables.

OK. I found a S-video to RCA adapter in the cable drawer and
I'm back in business for now. Thanks for asking.

  • Good stuff that!!
Mine is still in the shop. I finally got an update on it. The power supply is in,but there is still a problem elsewhere. He said something else is shorting out and is likely what killed the old power supply board. So he will eventually pin it down.

I hope things turn out well HA for ya.

It's amazing how long these units have lasted.
The players are out living the laserdiscs :)

  • Bad news for the DVL-91. With each problem he fixed another and another would crop up. Just not worth it to fix her. So it's time to locate another Laserdisc player. I'm gonna go on the long hunt for a Pioneer Elite. I don't really need one that plays CD's or DVD's since my Oppo does such a wonderful job at that. I'm gonna find a Laserdisc only player. I say a long hunt, because I ain't got the funds to deal with this right now. I have too many Laserdiscs that I enjoy and do not plan on getting rid of them. I will get another one eventually. Patience is the word for the day........................
Thanks for all of the positive and uplifting words fellow Polkies!
