Well it looks like the winds are finally dying down. Now perhaps the firefighters can get a handle on the wildfires that are still burning out of control in Los Angeles County.

Fires here are insane and heartbreaking. I think @nooshinjohn lives up off the 101 somewhere. There's a new fire in that area right now (north of the 101) approaching homes. My sister had to evacuate from her home in Hollywood because of the mandatory evacuation orders.
Over 6000 homes and structures have been completely destroyed. No containment in sight.

First significant snow in Metro Atlanta since December 2017? I had 3-4" overnight and then it started sleeting and turning the nice powder into a slushy mess. We are supposed to have a freezing rain later and a hard freeze tonight. Things probably won't thaw until Sunday or Monday. Side roads receive no treatment from the county, so I won't be going anywhere for a couple days.

I like snow for a day or three, and then that's enough. Gets pretty messy around here with the sand they spread.

Thanks! The fire was closer to a friend's house, and got within a block or two, but no damage. The fire burned away from us, but we did get quite a show from the aerial ballet show from water droppers, and a near endless parade of apparatus driving by our house. Thank God the winds shifted a bit and died down.The Gear... I would tell you about our conditions but it's still in a crap shoot. It's either bad or really bad, untilnthw morning......or beyond. The ice is the main varient.

I haven't noticed the difference between snow and ice - I'll have to pay attention to that.
But I know what you mean about the scent of snow in the air before it snows. It's unique, I can't describe it.

A nice calm no wind snow day sure does have that "smell". I love those days, I try to get out in the woods and spend the day.
