I must say, I have some days, and some shirts, that put me in the same camp as The Rock.

This picture reminds me of my only trip I took on a DC-3 about 1974. I had flown a few times only on jets. To tell the truth, it was an old plane and I was really apprehensive and scared. To and fro, was an adventure at a rather low altitude. Future trips to the facility were serviced by DC-9's, thank God.

It was a business trip from Atlanta to Glynco, GA on the coast close to Brunswick. FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) is located there and was responsible for training all government law enforcement personnel except for the Secret Service and Supreme Court security. My colleague and I were finalizing a contract to develop training software for the Center. I mention FLETC because one never knows what and where things are happening.

    Memories are fun, sometimes.

Sonic booms from the most powerful rocket ever built have some scientists worried
    cnccrse4nfnu.png
    From CNN.

As the Super Heavy booster made its way back to a pinpoint landing, an earsplitting sonic boom rang out.

“It truly was one of the loudest things I’ve ever heard or experienced,” said Noah Pulsipher, an applied physics undergraduate at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and a coauthor of a recent study about the noise associated with the Starship launch.

The sound, detectable miles away at a popular tourist destination, was as loud as a gunshot at close range, according to the study that published in November in the journal JASA Express Letters.

I've only heard one sonic boom in my life. It was at a Lockheed Family Appreciation Day in the late 50's or early 60's. Dad always went and I loved going. Always lots of planes to view on the ground, and the trip through the manufacturing plant was mind blowing to me.

On that day, there was a demonstration of an F-100 Sabre Jet. It flew over and up and broke the sound barrier. I think sonic booms are "outlawed" now in flights over US.

Bought a model kit the next week. (Mom thew it out with all my others a few years later)

Developed as a follow-on to the F-86 Sabre used in the Korean War, the F-100 was the world's first production airplane capable of flying faster than the speed of sound in level flight (760 mph).
