I've only heard one sonic boom in my life. It was at a Lockheed Family Appreciation Day in the late 50's or early 60's. Dad always went and I loved going. Always lots of planes to view on the ground, and the trip through the manufacturing plant was mind blowing to me.
On that day, there was a demonstration of an F-100 Sabre Jet. It flew over and up and broke the sound barrier. I think sonic booms are "outlawed" now in flights over US.
Bought a model kit the next week. (Mom thew it out with all my others a few years later)
