If I lose power, it looks like I can still make java.
The French press has never been unpacked, it's a small one. I'd like to try it once or twice.
I have used the Vietnamese dripper vessel, it's strong coffee is served on ice with sweetened condensed milk. -
I have a Moccamaster, a Cuisinart, and a French Press at home that I use occasionally on weekends.
95 percent of my coffee comes from a Keurig machine though. I always use sugar and half-and-half so coffee bean flavor itself isn't my main focus. Rapid caffeine delivery is and I stopped drinking soda altogether some time ago. -

Ya know, you can buy caffeine powder from china, just cut out a rail and snort it up.....

Coffee is the mother of my day (with apologies to anyone I just plagiarized). Been drinking it since grade school. I didn’t become nerdy until some coworkers were talking up roasting their own beans and touting how much money they were saving….kind of like the home brewers beforehand. “Just pennies a glass!” Great thread.

Thanks for the recommendation Scott...and hey, I've chatted through direct messaging with you enough to know that if coffee makes you taz out, then you and I have two different versions of taz....maybe you're just drinking RedLine in secret.....

Lol, so you Know about Redline...back when VPX was a thing, they were one of my sponsors. The two supplements I used at the track were; Redline and Hydroforce.
I used to tease the other racers with their monsters and rockstars by saying, boys, if you had my stuff, you'd pour your stuff down the toilet.....of course they'd want to try it and I'd warn them, "Sip it slow, this ain't your grandmas energy drink".
Sure enough, they'd come back to my pits shaking..."hey man, you got anymore of the crack in a can?"
I'd load my system on Hydroforce, then at second call for my race, I'd chug a can of Redline. I could literally feel my insides crystalizing into little ice cubes, then head out to do crazy stuff

I always associated Redline with BMX bikes from the 80s, or Red Line 2-stroke oil for the motocross bikes from that same era...

Those vintage Redlines are STILL going for big bucks. (BTW, same thoughts here Bill)

I used to like Peet's because of their small beans it ground nice and tasted good in my Breville grind and brew. Peet's didn't exit Russia like everyone else so I avoid them now. Switched to Starbucks for their bean size and taste and then they went woke so they got my ban hammer to. Death Wish was a good replacement but a bit pricey.
For the past few months it's been DD for $19.99 for 3lbs. It goes through the grinder nicely and makes a decent cup. I'm hoping corporate DD doesn't do anything stupid as they're good enough for my 2 cup a day habit. -
I used to LOVE Dunkin' Donuts coffee until I tasted it through the MM. Yuck!

Don’t know if I can bear to share the info on Peet’s with my mom. She like’s the Cafe Dominguez roast.
I just bought her a grinder and some whole bean Columbia roast from the 903 Roastery that I referenced earlier in the thread and she liked it, so maybe that will ease the blow.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
During the COVID lockdown and working from home, we got more serious about coffee. I am not sure how the Mr Coffee Barista held up with 5 coffee drinkers at home but it did. Then I found a great coffee shop in Carlisle PA, Denim Coffee. I order beans from them now and can highly recommend them. They roast on Tuesdays. Then my wife stepped up my game with a Breville Bambino for Christmas.

This might make for a good thread of its own, but what makes the bigger difference: the coffee or the coffee maker?
Your quote earlier in this thread got me thinking about this Tom. You obviously have a very nice machine, but you said you don’t spend a lot on coffee. A nice, revealing stereo system will let you know when you feed it a bad recording, but I’d think a nice coffee machine would bring out the best in a cheaper coffee. Maybe that’s only true down to a certain level of cheaper coffee.
So I guess my ultimate question is this, which would taste better, a good quality, freshly ground cup from a Mr. Coffee or a cup of Folgers from a Mochamaster? (We can maybe agree that neither would be very good, but which would be the better of the two options?)Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Paul, that is a very good question. Objectively or subjectively.

After 30 or so years of drinking coffee daily, and using 3 different grinders, a dozen or so coffee drip makers, pour overs, percolators, moka pots, french presses, espresso makers, etc., I believe the brewing method/equipment has a greater impact on the overall flavor, at least within a reasonable comparison. Folgers vs Kona Organic will probably never be a fair comparison, but comparing a good medium roast Colombian freshly ground with pre-ground Blue Mountain might surprise you. The Columbian prepared with care (whatever method you prefer), would probably taste better than Blue Mountian in a Mr. Coffee drip maker. If you are going to spend more than $15/lb of coffee, you should be grinding it fresh and making it with a high quality method.
Because I have the time, patience, and I'm cost sensitive, I choose to get the most out of a relatively inexpensive coffee.
-
Well seeing how your average kitchen grinder will never ever get nearly fine enough for espresso, no ****,
I bet you’d find high quality fresh ground coffee beans out of a crappy coffee maker will be better than **** coffee out of a nice machine.
There’s a reason my grinder cost more than my espresso machine, the grind is so incredibly important2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave
