I would hate to have to have a conversation about this with the dealer:

purchaser: "I have two right speakers"
    dealer: "Right..."
    P: "No. Two right!"
D : "OK, what do you want me to do?"
P: "Do you have any left speakers left?"
    D : "I'm sorry?"
P: "Left speakers. Do you have any Left?"
    D : "Right, I see..."
    P: "NO. LEFT!"
D : Let me see if we have any Left speakers left... oh... right here we have some left -- but they're right."
P : "Right is wrong. Is there anyone else I can speak to?"
    D : "No, I am all that's left"

sound of P's phone being hurled against the wall

OK, it needs work. Where's @Hermitism when we need him? He must have left. Maybe he'll be right back?

The only thing I could do to improve upon that is maybe adding a pic.

Having two right speakers, if you were to toe-in your left speaker so that the outside array is pointed at your listening spot and not use the SDA cable, shouldn't that work to get a good center image in non-SDA mode while you wait for the replacement?

    You're... right!

(y'all knew I was gonna do that...)

Seriously, and on topic -- @mpitogo are you currently using them as stereo loudspeakers (i.e., with the interconnect cable unplugged), or just using something else until things are sorted out with a proper L/R pair?

Well there is sure some drama here! On multiple levels! Makes this a very nice thread to read @mpitogo ! Hope you get the correct speaker soon!

I have to smile a bit, forgive me, cause I know you're a bit frustrated. The human element is something you can never process out of. In my biz at the assembly plant, no matter how many fail safe process we put in (bar code scanners, colored light picks, mechanical features to distinguish left/right) sure enough a human can build it wrong! Just my experience.

At the end of the L800 distribution chain, there is a human being that has to pick the correct speakers! I predict that there will be huge left/right stickers on the boxes soon!

I used to work the trim and final assembly line at Subaru, and we used to joke about the guys in the shirts and ties coming up with stuff just to make our lives hell, and that is where that comes from. I remember, and never will forget one example.

We had two different ECU's for the Toyota Camry in 2008. One was 49 state compliant, and the other for California. they were labled CC and CG respectively. The font for these parts was insanely small like the fine print on a credit card application, and at a line speed of 90 seconds to install 23 small parts, you had less than a second to ID the part. The guys bringing parts to the line would even screw up and put them on the wrong shelf or the guys filling the parts bins off-line would even put them in the wrong box.

There were numerous other examples of this in the time I was there.

My apologies for the dig Verb, as I meant no offense. It was meant in the spirit of Navy/Marine jabber or "us vs. them" kind of banter.

    My apologies.

Thanks John. Yep I have to smile in your above examples, as that still happens, but we have folks now that review the labeling and bar coding to make sure it's robust.

We have scanners in the station where the operators are supposed to scan, install, scan, etc., but they end up at times scanning a bunch and stockpiling em closer to the install locations, ugh!

Easy assembly is the key to great quality, for sure. Ergonomics is another area that we focus a lot on, hard to install usually means not installed correctly.

Your example above is a great illustration of what happened with the speakers, L/R not easy to read, easy to screw up!

And, for the record, I still love ya John! All good brother! Thanks for your comments, I know your just jabbing me, but, well, um, still love ya!

I totally understand your point John. A place where I used to work new college "engineers" would come down every so often and try to reinvent the wheel, sort of speak. Lot's of us guys that had been there and on the job for 10+/20+ years didn't know a damn thing about what we were doing but the new young bucks knew everything, but had only been there a year or under. I didn't work on an assembly line, our work was hand crafted solely by us. A perfect example -

Engineers - "We're going to do such and such"
Regular Joe - "They tried that already, more than once"
Engineers - "But, we're going to it a little bit differently than last time"
Regular Joe - " (Roll eye's) Ok, here we go again..."
Then the engineers would look at us like we were total idiots.

Just the sheer arrogance of those people still gets my blood going...

I remember a thousand life-times ago when I was working as a train controller. I was a young fella working a night shift with an old seasoned veteran controller who actually had helped at the conclusion of WWII re-establish the railroads in Italy while in the service. He knew his shite, and had worked his whole career "in the trenches" so to speak, eventually culminating in his position as a controller. A young "train master" who had never worked a day in the trenches came in shortly before the start of the day shift, looked at the old guys train sheets and asked why the guy had set up a train meet at a certain time at a certain place. The old controller never blinked an eye, just looked up and said, "Because I saw fit to." He then turned back to his work. The "trainmaster" stood stunned until he turned on his heels and left the office without a further word. I should add the railroad unions were strong in those days.

When the delivery man left he thought he had left the right speaker but he soon found out that what he left wasn't right. The good news is he plans to make it right on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to hearing the review of the L800s so I hope he doesn't get it wrong again. You know what they say... two wrongs don't make a RIGHT. :)
