From a design and engineering standpoint, is having a rigid one-piece square frame like this going to be more effective toward combating wobble?

In my mind, this design looks a lot more rigid than the VTI, but I'm still not clear on why.

You're right, it's not a one-piece frame, just looked at the assembly instructions.

Still, it just looks inherently more stable to me for some reason. But looks can be deceiving.

Yes, I see that. Not sure I can swing for something that expensive, but it would still be nice to check them out in person at the local shop and see how they look/feel.

It seems like most people must be happy with a 2-3 shelf unit, because once you start looking at 4-5 shelf the prices go way up. :/

How many I "need" might be different than how many I "want"! :D

Ideally 5, could go with 4 if I had to.

I have three CD players that I like to have hooked up at the same time. I'm a weirdo.

The Adona racks use an aluminum multi-channel system. It's a very solid system. We use this at work, at times, for mounting different pieces of equipment. I've often eyeball it with thoughts of sneaking out enough to build a nice rack, but, my job isn't worth it. You can but these pieces, and harware, from suppliers, but, it is expensive. That's why work doesn't keep much on hand. They pay at least double for anything they buy.

Plus, Adona uses some different materials for their shelves to aid in sound deadening.

The advantage of this unit is that it is bolt together. That way you can ensure everything is true and square prior to tightening everything down.

Yep. I've actually bought stuff from them. And they sell parts on eBay, odds and ends of different pre-cut lengths. They will even cut them to length for you if needed. I use a metal cutting blade on my tablesaw to cut the aluminum rails.

Don’t forget about solid tech. They have a new hybrid rack, completely customizable, and has several different configurations to suit your needs. You can buy each individual piece, and add on to the rack as your system grows. The quality is top notch, and very precise. There was absolutely zero messing around while assembling. The machining of the aluminum parts is very high quality. Even the way they pack this think is stunning. There are several color options as well.

It’s very solid, You could do a back flip in the living room and land on your head, and get no skips from vinyl playback.

Adona uses a lot of 80/20's components to build their racks!

Sorry but I'm quoting myself! So I did a parts list using 80/20 extruded rails, pre-cut. Overall dimensions of the project will be using 5 shelves that are 24" wide, 21" deep. Overall height of the rack is 36" (excluding feet).

If you buy bulk lengths of the rail it would be a bit cheaper. Would have to cut with a metal cutting saw of course.

    Price including shipping (sans shelves):
    ack1haf07vir.png

Similar to the Eris model 5C ($2600). The shelves could be bolted directly onto the rails, or you could isolate them in a similar way that Adona does. Key here is flexibility, and this design makes future upgrades (bolt em down now, isolate later) add wings, etc. possible.

Considerable savings here, and the joy of another DIY project!

    FWIW!
