darned nice little loudspeakers -- I doubt that many folks who think the Radio Shack "Minimus 7" was a great little loudspeaker have heard a pair of L-300s (or Visonik Davids, for that matter).

well -- I found mine on the scrap metal pile at the Harvard town dump, so I may not be the best judge :-)

The ST-40 is a pretty good (if homely) amplifier, push-pull 7591A outputs at a rated 20 wpc. Useless loudness control circuit (readily modified); uses a 5AR4 rectifier (if there's a Mullard in there, you're already ahead of the game). I think the ST-40s nowadays typically go for $250 to 400, give or take. Rehab needed, of course, if it's all original inside. Easy to work on. I think the EICO group @ Yahoo has the manual for it (and/or other sources) -- if you need docs & have any trouble finding 'em, shoot me a PM.

The front panel on that one is much cleaner than mine. It's (I think) a fairly late version, with the metal inserts in the knobs (rather than the brown inserts on earlier versions).

A priori, $250 doesn't sound bad at all -- depends on condition & tubes installed; could be a pretty, even a very, good deal.

This thread may be of interest: http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/111045/eico-st-70-vintage-tube-integrated-amp-restoration-upgrade/
The topic of the thread's the EICO ST-70 as opposed to the ST-40... but there are some marked similarities between the two (although there are also very significant differences).

Nice all around receiver -- do you have a pair of Cornwalls or Choruses or other "heritage" Klipsch? The Fishers and the Klipsches complement each other surprisingly well...

No. I tested/listened to it on the mini ADS's. Until i service the receiver or have my tech look it over. I have some fair size Advents i will use for now till i decide what to use with it. Thanks for the Klipsch suggestion. I was wondering what to use with it. Wasnt really looking for more gear. But couldnt resist

Everyone should have a 1960s Fisher receiver in the stable. They're beautiful in that 1960s"Mad Men" way and very capable, too.

Mark I listened to it for 2+ hours & enjoyed it. Im sure it will do better once its serviced correctly. I may change out some tubes (researching now) but wallet says no. We dont see these up here in this neck of the woods ever. All monies were donated to the local MidCoast hospital. So im happy

Rosie O'Kelly, anyone? Avery Fisher? Wall of Sound? (You boys are probably too uptight for this).

Randy, did that belong to that oddball/eccentric-living on the edge boy-with the creepy basement full of gear...what was his name? Mike? You know who I'm talking about? If so, I am pleasantly surprised HE donated the money, because he seemed like a real scam artist of the Machiavellian variety.

I have my eye on this Sansui G-7700. Anybody have any experience with this particular model?

2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

  • This Sansui AU-317II was $10 garage sale find yesterday. Both of the rack mounts were broken, so I removed them while cleaning it up. Unfortunately the master volume pot is all but impossible to get to without some disassembly, and it still has some static issues, so I'm going to have to open it back up again and see if I can get it cleared up.

Hey, I didn't know headphones would be included. As you saw w/ Randy's here are my Pioneer se-305s. They have leather ear cups, padded band and fit snug across the top. These are far an away much better than my original Super -X from Yonkers in the 70's which were like have 2 milk crates on your ears and made you sweat so much they gave out cloth pads that fit the cups.1vzitv1egxdn.jpg

Lew if you wear the se-q404's for any lenth of time-its quite a workout. Sound pretty good. But heavy buggers with front & rear speakers & adjustment knob. Ive had em for years. I tried em on the quad & then the quad went to live at a new home (Dans now) after i did a quick recondition

Randy what did you pay for that Fisher 400? Those things are highly thought of by everyone that has one. I don't think I've seen a single person on the interwebs say that they didn't like it.

Check out this mamma jamma. Fisher 500... only $1,500! That's a lot of money for something so old... they must be awesome.

(ssssshhh) This is a sneaky good amp for nearfield applications.
It can be bridged for 80W per channel. Nice detail and quite.
Hook up some good monitors and be happy. :)
I'm on the hunt for another one.
