He played it his shop for about 100 hrs. It was over 200 wpc. Folks probably chuckle at this "old" crap, but this thing is a tone machine and can easily hang with new stuff. They retailed at over $1000 back in the day and would probably cost 5x that today. Plus the esthetics are sweet.

My case is an aftermarket i think. The original monster cases were the WC-124 like this one... I wish I could find a nice one of these.

With an original one as a Template One could reproduce one (with a shop and tools that is) quite easily.

Just hooked my budgie and TT to the 2385....Hooked it to a line level tape in input and very sweet. tube phono pre to this old receiver is a nice match... I'm thinking the A21 and the P5 might go to the HT rig.

This is a 1983 Sears Lxi receiver & ive been digging for info trying to see the specifications & come up with nothing. Im thinking between 30-50wpc possibly. I think in was made by Sanyo. I got it from original owner who said list price was around 600 & retail at time he purchased it was around 430.00 & this was the display one & they didnt have the box/manual so he said he got it for 230.00 or so-in 1983. I hooked it to the speakers above & was pretty amazed at how much power it has & does a great job. It might be the speakers &or they match quite well

I'd be pretty certain the Sears/LXi is Sanyo OEM.
The Lafayette speaker above is very interesting; I'll see what I can dig up, if anything, from my cache of old LRE catalogs.

Thanks Mark. I really want to open the speaker cabinets up BUT i think it would be quite the job & cause more damage by doing so. I was thinking maybe these were a kit someone did ??? They gotta weigh near 50lbs & around 2ft tall. I can take measurements tomorrow. Thanks

I am not sure if those are speakers systems or enclosures (storebought or DIY) fitted with LRE components... so I've gotta do some research :-)

The components Lafayette sold/used were literally :-) all over the map. Anything from second-rate US (Utah) and Asian (Brand X, but also Panasonic/Matsush!ta) drivers to top-quality OEM versions of Goodmans (UK) and Electrovoice (US) components.

They are all-around fine sounding loudspeakers, in my hardly humble opinion.
I am a little less enamored of the (really) big ones, but the small and medium sized ones (especially earlier models, such as the L-710 and the aforementioned L-810) are among the least fatiguing and most pleasant and musical sounding direct radiator/conventional driver loudspeakers I know of (to date).

They really like my krell amp. They are well suited to each other. Those 4- 8" drivers put out some serious bass thwack, very fast bass.

darned nice little loudspeakers -- I doubt that many folks who think the Radio Shack "Minimus 7" was a great little loudspeaker have heard a pair of L-300s (or Visonik Davids, for that matter).

Eiko ST40 Tube Amp

well -- I found mine on the scrap metal pile at the Harvard town dump, so I may not be the best judge :-)

The ST-40 is a pretty good (if homely) amplifier, push-pull 7591A outputs at a rated 20 wpc. Useless loudness control circuit (readily modified); uses a 5AR4 rectifier (if there's a Mullard in there, you're already ahead of the game). I think the ST-40s nowadays typically go for $250 to 400, give or take. Rehab needed, of course, if it's all original inside. Easy to work on. I think the EICO group @ Yahoo has the manual for it (and/or other sources) -- if you need docs & have any trouble finding 'em, shoot me a PM.

The front panel on that one is much cleaner than mine. It's (I think) a fairly late version, with the metal inserts in the knobs (rather than the brown inserts on earlier versions).
