Another (classic) flavor of coaxial driver: this is one of a pair of 12 inch, cast-frame Tannoy coaxial drivers temporarily removed from its natural habitat (a pair of 1970s Tannoy Devon loudspeakers).

In the UK, "Tannoy" is a generic term for loudspeakers (especially, and a bit unfairly, particularly of the public address kind) in the same way that "Kleenex" is generic for paper tissues.

EDIT: This is what the innards of one of these drivers looks like:

While out and about today Cathy and I ended up in Adamstown, PA. While looking at antiques at Reddingers. I came across a pair of ADS L470's. After a little haggling I got them for $40.

I got them thanks to the Mrs. She wanted to go to Adamstown not me. I would have been happy to go home after the record fair.

This is basically the European version of the Sansui G-9000DB. It is not very common in the states. The wood grain is darker, face plate is gun metal, and labeling is white. Specs are the same, with beefy conservative 160 watts per channel into 8 Ohms.

This is my favorite receiver and it has recently gone back into my main listening system. It has bested my Parasound P5 for analog duty and it is a hell of a lot prettier. I am using my Sansui G-901DB as a preamp and it is being driven by a Parasound model 2250 V2 power amp. I decided to up the power since this is driving second generation 4 Ohm Polk SDA SRS recapped by Westmass guy. It is also used to drive a B set of Polk SDA 1C speakers also recapped by WMG. I will listen to either set of speakers depending on where I or guests are sitting. I believe I am pretty happy for now, though you guys know how it goes

@ Pumpkinman- How do you like the Lab 500 turntable. I have one but need to replace the RCA's on it. They have been spliced and have a short.

Yes very much. This is the 1st full auto table I've owned in 15 years and the lazy side of me loves it. I have an Empire that I need to get started on soon.

You haven't seen it yet? It's literally ridiculous. I think he posted a video at one point somewhere. One of the best record collections on this site, to be sure.

My son finally arrived tonight - played him a lil demo music on the Boston Acoustics A70's...
Long story longer - able to assemble the following:
HK Receiver - $0 - eliminated from work
    Technics SL-5 Linear Tracker - $27 Goodwill
Phillips BT receiver - $19 - stolen from my garage system
BA A70's $10 yard sale - really about $90 after foam & crossovers
Silver Speaker Cables - $0 - had em layin around
    Monster IC's - $0 - had em layin around
Look on his face when he heard those A70s (burned in a full 200+ hours)
    PRICELESS.
Was worth every moment and every penny.

I picked this Sansui G-5500 yesterday. I find the Sansui G series the most attractive of all the silver faced receivers of that vintage. I love the symmetry of all knobs and buttons :)

That line of Sansui receivers has always gotten points from me for having had the chutzpah to break away from me-too cosmetics. The very next models from Sansui were very similar but also included digital radio frequency displays, too, it may be recalled.

This Luxman C-120A pre was a $20 garage sale find a few weeks ago. It had some issues which was not unexpected. Just got it back at a cost of another $143 to get it recapped and fully serviced. I've now got it substituted for my CX-100 and paired with the M-300 amp...and the wife is gone for the night.
The C-1010 sitting below it may be the next candidate for a recap. It sounds great at lower volumes but gets a bit harsh and fatiguing at higher levels.
