    There is a lot of tube gear I don't like. But the stuff I currently own sounds good.
    No bloated tubby bass here. And marginal recordings don't pierce my ears any more.

    The real problem any more is all the good used amps are getting long in the tooth.
    And repair techs are as well. Add on to it many of the sources for SS parts
    have dried up. You blow up a match pair of transistors, you might have a very hard
    time finding new ones. Or almost as worse, end up with Chinese fakes.
    Those classic NAD, Rotel, B&K and Carver pieces are all past their prime. Add shipping
    to and from a really good repair place, and suddenly you have a lot of $$$
    tied up. Emo has the right product at the right price for a lot of people out there.
    As far as tubes dying off, dream on. A quick visit to a head-fi meet shows a whole lot of
    tube and tube hybrid gear. Those guys are a trendy bunch, and if tube gear wasn't
    cutting it in the sound department, it wouldn't be there in the numbers it is.
    And many spend as much on headphones, amps, and DACs as many here spend on their
    speaker set ups. I'd really like to try a Emo to see what it's about, but not really
    in the cards as of right now.

    Like was said here many times already no one is putting EMO on a pedestal, just stop all the bashing is all.
    FYI I have been in many many mom and pop audio stores in my yrs and have heard many things that made me grin ear to ear.
    Right now at this time in my life every time I play a movie or listen to my TT with the gear I own right now I get that Grin.
    I basically spent all day yesterday listening to music in 2 channel mostly my TT but I also listened very intently to some Miles Davis Flac I have and I must say I actually liked it quite a lot.
    I was trying to listen very objectively to really hear everything the music had to offer, and I'm quite satisfied with my results which I will be PM,ing Ztful with as I need to ask a few questions first.
    Since I generally do not listen to this type of music I need to know what he means by I think he said finger valving the flute and sax, trumpet..

    Of course I'm only generalizing about having grey hair, I will however say that a general tube listener will be an older gentlemen and not the younger generation..
    You know kind of like the mp3 quality it's a younger persons format..

    But don't fear it....the level of enjoyment can go so much higher. The thrill of hearing more from the same material you thought you were familiar with is addicting. You'll eventually find pleasure in coming back and saying to others how foolish you were. The enjoy factor goes so much higher that it's fun to admit how wrong you were! You'll find yourself so immersed in music you listen to the whole song to last dieing note instead of the first minute and then skipping on.

    Right here on this forum, over time, you can see this play out time after time. Join the club. Get out and experience that there actually is a whole level way above and beyond the big box store level!

    There's plenty of negative comments about Adcom amps around here. I saw a negative comment about Dared the other day. I'd say there's most likely a negative comment about every piece of gear in these pages. I don't recall other folks calling it bashing tho.

    The way the brain processes information I'd say 20 seconds was plenty long enough. I walked into a Legacy room at a show last year, was making my way to a seat, but stopped short, turned around and walked out because it sounded horrible. One of the worst I'd heard in a while. It may have taken 20 seconds total by the time I got back to the door. If that makes me an elitist snob, then I'm happy to be one.

    Allow me to butt in here and change the topic...again...

    I'm the guy the OP purchased the amp from and having been screwed by people who did a deplorable job packing a delicate 75lb peice of metal I was sure to properly protect the amp. Packing consisted of placing the amp in a garbage bag, surrounding it with a layer of 2" thick foam insulation board from Home Depot and placing it in a heavy duty Home Depot moving box. I too pictures of the packing process and even made movies of the speakers playing clearly before I packaged it up, just in case UPS were idiots.

    While the amp was prevented from shifting around inside the box I wonder if the foam was too firm, not able to absorb impacts and vibrations good enough, thus transmitting it into the chassis, so UPS could have dropped it fairly hard without damaging the box, but all the impact went right into the amp.

    I empathize with the OP, I've recieved two bad amps myself, the first a HCA-1206 with two bad channels, far worse than what Jeremy is describing, the second had fist sized holes in the box from the amp shifting around...because they only used packing peanuts!!!!

    That said I'm glad you've found some audio peace! I know that heart sinking feeling when something in your rig doesn't work. Absolutely terrible. Enjoy that puppy, and do let us know if you're able to fix the Parasound. I'd love to know what got broken!

    Some things you just know..considering tubes are older anyway..
    Therefore the logical conclusion would be old audiophile's know tubes vs younger people getting into audio probably have never even heard of tubes and if they do know of tubes would presume that it is a much older way for music..
    Think about classic cars from the 40's and 50's it's an older mans hobby..

    If tubes were old you would only find them in vintage gear, and would not be able to hardly find tubes at all.
