Whats with all the talk about Oppo BDP-83 ?

That was my guess. I was glad you switched the IC's just to take them out of the equation. Enjoy your new toy!
Well, for me, it was somewhat a matter of preference and trade-off.
To a casual listener, the difference in audio quality may not have been noticed or regarded as worth the effort (or perhaps even considered preconceived bias or delusional).
I could hear a difference....
If it were possible - I'd create a sonic synthesis of the two players to tone down...just a tad...the forward nature of the Cambridge 640c, but leave its ability for detail intact.
So, in the end, for me.....it was not really one vastly superior, but an overall consideration of all the categories of balance, depth, soundstage, detail, and accuracy. Balance would go to the Oppo. The others to the Cambridge.
Just my afternoon ramblings....

I don't have enough ICs!!

He meant take your ICs off the 2 channel outs and put them on the MCH L&R. Different DAC, op amps and voltage is 2v vs 2.4v. Also, I'm not sure why you don't turn HDMI audio off for the test and take the DVR out of the chain. To me, the dedicated 2 channel outs were bass heavy with the pre at neutral, as well as, louder (duh). Maybe, it was masking the midrange on your setup.Erik Tracy wrote: »I don't have enough ICs!!
Thanks for posting Erik...it's about what I expected, though I wouldn't call the Oppo warm...neutral sure.

I may try that, but I thought with MCH with only L&R that I'd loose full audio spectrum for the bass if that was not hooked up.
I used the DVR connection only for the 2-channel connections - I don't have a DVR - was just using its inputs as a second set of connections for the Oppo.
What speakers are you running?
For this test in Pure Direct I didn't have my sub hooked up, so I only had my RTIA3s in the chain - bass heaviness is kinda hard to notice.

It should be channel to channel depending on the source. I've been doing it with no loss of signal. The 2 channel outs will automatically downmix MCH, but the MCH just plays what's sent.Erik Tracy wrote: »I may try that, but I thought with MCH with only L&R that I'd loose full audio spectrum for the bass if that was not hooked up.What speakers are you running? For this test in Pure Direct I didn't have my sub hooked up, so I only had my RTIA3s in the chain - bass heaviness is kinda hard to notice.
1Cs...yes there's quite a difference. A3s can thump in the midbass. I'd be interested in your impressions of taking you AVR out of the chain entirely. Just connect your M1.0T directly to the Oppo. I'll bet you get a huge uptick in bass response. Taking the AVR out of my chain for 2 channel really improved my performance. It might not work with your Cambridge, but it will with the Oppo. Be sure to start with the volume at 0

I'm still holding back on BDP 83 - only reason is lak of IP capability for playing back Audio and Video.
In my current setup,
o SC07 doesnt play Video over IP
o PS3 is used mainly as BDP and playing Videos (stored on Hard drives - HP Media storage) over IP
I want to keep one player (for now PS3) and when Oppo comes with BDP 83N, I'll jump in it. Until then hands will be itchy..

Any of you know the difference in picture quality between the Oppo and the new Cambridge Audio bd player above?
