Looks like they are going to start shipping their 'pre orders' toward the end of May. Although sounds like the 'first' editions will still be subject to updates and new firmware as released.

The pre orders start shipping today. All Blu-Ray players are subject to firmware updates, the Oppo is no different.

I think I will grab one, put it into pure testing and see if it's a keeper. I like having SACD and DVD AUDIO built in. I have a Pioneer ELite I steam over HDMI but it would be nice to have just one player instead of 2. I'm into simple now instead of massive amounts of gear. I'm into Black gear again instead of Silver, funny how that happens.

WHooo HOOOOO!!!!, I just ordered the BDP-83 and I am excited. I was going to go for a Pioneer Elite 23FD but was concerned about the some of the issues with the new 320. EAP users are reporting 14 sec load times with the 83, and how well it performs. I will run it HDMI into my SC-07 and definitely try some SACDs and DVD-A. Man I'm excited. Got my invitation via email since you can only order by invitation only as of right now. Should be released to public here soon. But I wanted one so bad, I had to go for it.

I'm not directing this at you.......but I find it sad that the load time of a DVD player even matters.

Understood, but for some it does matter. I normally make a batch of popcorn and am getting myself prepared for the ride in the theater room. For some, patience does not exist, so this player will suit them well. Take for example any JAVA BD and I can sort of understand it. Sometimes it does require a rather long wait, especially with 1.0 profile players.

A friend just picked his up and loves it. He was using a PS3 for BD and a Denon 2900 for SACD. He says it's better than both for BD, DVD and hi res SQ (no comments on redbook). If you can dump a couple of players, it sounds like a great deal to me.

Jesse, the load times for DVD are inconsequential, but cutting the load times for BD to less than a third of V.1 players is an incentive. Some disks take 2 -3 minutes to load all the features. It sure isn't a deal breaker for what you get, but I'd appreciate quicker load times.

agreed.. but some people can't hold out for 45 seconds for a blu ray player to load up.. seems silly to me..

I just go make myself a mixed drink while the blu ray player is loading up.. problem solved. ;)

Yes I would think so, it can pretty much do anything u throw at it. DVD-A, SACD no problems, firmware, BD live, and more over ethernet. 1gb of built in storage. I can't wait to get mine in, I'm looking forward to having this baby in the theater room. @499 its one of the best out there, and to top it off Oppo takes support for this player very serious so updates will be there.

I got a demo at my budddy's last weekend. Lightning fast load time compared to my Sony and SQ was much improved. I've heard his rig dozens of times, it's never been this open and detailed. I've decided to go for it now.

Did anyone talked to Oppo if they hav plans to support audio and video streaming over IP (uPNP)? I have a media server and this is feature is critical for me and is a decision point.

Mine arrived today and so far I love it. I really haven't done a lot yet, but the sound on SACD's and the stereo output sounds great to me!! I don't even own a Blu-ray DVD yet!! I did put Monsters Inc in and the picture is great. Just remember, what is great to me may not be to someone else. I don't have a lot of experience, but I do appreciate good sound and picture quality.. I don't have the cables I ordered for it yet, hooked it up with some that were laying around. I am only using the component video outputs and it looks wonderful. My Pioneer Elite doesn't have HDMI so I have to go with the component connections. All I can say is I am very happy with it at this point.

I would like to hear what others have to say!!
