I'm new to this forum, but not at all new to internet message boads. It occurs to me that this forum would benefit from some type of formal moderator. In the short time I've been participating I've seen quite a few posts with personal attacks, profanity, and lots of childish comments. I'm not talking about spirited debate here. I encourgage spirited debate and I think it makes the forum better. I'm talking about a level of civility that is not present. A vigilant moderator while occassionally annoying, can make all the difference. I've seen this work on other sites.

If polk cannot provide full time moderators, they should appoint frequent posters to the position. If they already have, I have seen no signs of it and the existing moderators should be replaced or raise their standards.

One final thought, I'm not posting this to attack anyone in particular. I'm just suggesting that this forum could be a better experience for everyone if we raised the bar. It might attract even more regular visitors as well. I've no doubt that the coarse nature of some posts is a turn off to many new comers.

While I agree that there is quite a bit of bickering on here from time to time I also know that the Mods here do the best they can with it. Patrick, Ken, Kim, Josh and others are on here often and do the best they can to flush the garbage. Having said that, self moderation on this site goes a long way, like my Mommy used to tell me, if you can't say anything nice to someone, say something bad to them on the Intraweb. Or something like that.

Yes, we have mods, and they are around frequently, only you never know because they are not labeled as such.

Here's the thing....while I can see your point, most the time it's newcommers who start ****. To let it go unanswered would be tragic to this forum. They either man up,or leave. We kinda like it that way. Whats the point of doubling the member count if most are going to be bozo's? I think we welcome all newbs with respect untill they prove unworthy of it, which alot of times, happens to be the case. They may go to audioholics or some other board, and thats ok because we don't want to be like those forums. I can agree that even the most seasoned member here can be out of line from time to time, but thats life, deal with it. Mods usually step in by way of Pm's, and if thats not enough, banned. They give us a certain amount of rope to either work it out,or hang ourselves, we appreciate that.

^ I agree. If certain people can't accept the harsh reality as the way it is. Then they shouldn't ask questions they are not ready to accept an answer for. I do agree that there are certain people here that seem to try and stir the pot. But I think those are or will be dealt with.

Just a suggestion. I hope the powers that be will at least consider the merits of more active moderation. People will fall into line quickly if a new standard of decorum is enforced. I've seen it elsewhere.

I don't think I'm alone in wanting to add a smidge more civility.

Hey jax. There is an amount of moderation here. As said before, they're just not out in the open as some other forums. I've been here a while and let me be the first to say, they WILL hand out infractions. I have some.:o
But on the other hand, I have met some great people here and consider many of them good friends. Some will bend over backwards to help others.
Most of what you see here is just words on a monitor. It's the GTG's, the PF's or just two Polkies hanging out on a Saturday listening to music and fiddling with their gear.
If you want to be a part of that, relax and listen to what others have to say. If not you may be losing out on a few new friends and a wealth of information.
We're not ALL bad people. Just some of us....like me.....and NJ.

I myself find it to be the opposite, makes for a more interesting read.

To the OP, I've never had a problem with anything, yet again, I don't try to debate everyone in an open forum. Your mad because of what people said in a thread, thats fine, but it doesn't mean that you have to say we need better mods. If you wanted debate you got debate, but its not always going to be pretty and its not always going to be clean. In real policy debate your not supposed to sit when reading cross examination arguments, but you know what people still do. People on the internet are not supposed to swear in an open forum but they still do.

As long as a person is calling you a nasty words, or making racial comments, or purposely trying to offend someone, then let it be. The mods take care of things and weed people out. Swearing happens, and also don't try to go pick a fight, because you will get one with people.

I think they handle it quit well. You choose to show your character and you are not well received. This also lets people know that this is a family here. Some get it and some don't. Some trolls do need a warning about baiting.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

    cstmar01,

I'm not mad at all. It is what it is. I think the forum would be better and have more diverse and more interesting posters if the standards were raised. That's my perspecitive as a new member.

Since the standards are pretty low and I've seen zero moderation so far, I have two basic choices if I continue to post on the forum. On possibly strategy is to just ignore the childish sacastic and sometimes profane posts. I admit that this is a hard strategy to consistently employ. Especially as their is a bit of a clique here and sacastic one liners are often followed by juvenile encouragement like "good one", "hilarious, hahaha", "that ones a classic".

OR, I can get down in the muck myself and engage in the same type of posting. Something I can be very good at. But, thinking about it, is that what I really want to spend my time doing? Posting childish and sarcastic one liners? Nope.

Yes there are mods....yes, if you do what cstmar01 says above you'll get banned. And I encourage you to search the over 1 million posts on this site before one starts making assessments of what the Polk site looks like and what it doesn't.

I should add that you, yourself, have been given a lot of breathing room here. It seems to me that it takes a while to learn the cultural expectations of any particular group. And that things at Polk are in no great danger of needing moral guidance from any of 'us'.

The great ethical masters of the world are NOT posting on Club Polk. Unless a chosen one has arisen from the web to guide us to the Pure Land of Audio Forums.

can you say **** alligator on a forum??????

I heard Buddy Hackett say it on HBO, you know the hobo channel??? he was picking on this rather prudish looking older lady, I'd say about 58-60, very prim and proper, you know with a hat, cocked just so on top of brown curled hair, dark blue white lace blouse and jacket, shin length skirt, thick stockings, 5' 6" about 160, she had a front row seat.....anyway, she is turning beat red as Hackett is cussing a storm in his act, he notices her and says.....hey lady, she turns away and hides her face behind her hanky, he just stares at her, she gets so flustered, wiggles and squiggles about in her seat, finally, looks up at Hackett, who standing there with this dumbfounded look on his face about this woman.......and just blurts.....

Lemme hear you Say **** alligator..........

So because YOU think some are out of line then the mods are supposed to follow YOUR recommendation. Who are you? Why do you get to dictate what happens here? What have you contributed to the community so far?

Again, if your bothered there are hundreds of other audio based discussion boards out there. Why do noobs come here and within two weeks think this place should be something different?
