No, I'm not trying to belittle Toyota's problems, however, the US government should not be in the position it is in with GM.

What are you trying to say? Are you inferring some type of 'conflict of interest' or cronyism:eek::p

You guys are funny. GM is included in the recall as well. The same pedal assembly is used in the Pontiac Vibe which was assembled alongside the matrix, Corolla and Tacoma in the NUMMI plant.

    Why would GM "sabotage" themselves?

how many Vibes did they actually SELL? By having a comparative handful of cars caught up in this mess they are able to avoid suspicion.;)

And apparently GM is offering some hefty incentives to Toyota owners who trade in a Toyota on a new GM product.

Toyota's reputation overseas (i.e.: outside of the U.S. and Japan) isn't so overwhelming positive and the foreign papers in Europe and other parts of Asia are having a field day with this. I think it will hurt their reputation pretty badly. Especially since the engine sludging problems, pickup truck frames rotting and other smaller issues in the very recent past. Add to that the cover-ups that they were accused of and investigated for a few years ago and the situation isn't so rosy anymore.

They still happen to be one of the best selling companies (haven't looked at stats lately, but are probably #2 or 3 in terms of sales in the US). I don't think that this recall and other things yo mentioned will knock them out of that ranking. I do remember when Audi was one of the best selling and reputable cars and had some mechanical problems similar to this (if my memory is correct). That definitely affected them to the point they never recovered.I may be wrong, but I guess time will tell.

Especially considering Honda's reliability also has not been what it once was. It seems quality control is not what it used to be for these import companies. Interesting that this seemed to start happening around the time Honda/Toyota/Nissan started assembling their vehicles in the States rather than Japan.

I have seen so many problems with the new Civic it's unreal...

I was looking into a 2007 Civic after my first car (a $600 1995 Ford Taurus lol) was destroyed after a Dodge Ram rear ended me - at a stop sign, nonetheless. Apparently he expected me to run it, because he never stopped. Anyways, I test drove one and didn't like it; ended up with a 2007 Hyundai (Hyundai?!) Tiburon. A week later, Honda recalled the Civic for an electrical problem with the ECU. My freaking Hyundai has 54k miles and I've never had to take it in for anything outside of scheduled maintenance. And it's a Hyundai lol.

Not as bad as the Chevy Cobalt though; I actually took one home initially because it was cheap and brought it back the very next day - within 60 miles, it had developed a clunk in the rear axle, harsh vibration during braking and a shifter that was reluctant to shift into 2nd or 3rd. Go Chevy :p

I don't like the new ones, and the Legacy GT is gigantic. I wouldn't be able to park that thing.

Is the Baja a manual? If so, how much?

    (EDIT)

Forgot they came in turbo. I'm only interested if it's a manual and a turbo.

Along with the '09 Corolla S, I also got a '08 Civic LX 4 door. Both were purchased brand-new and within 6 months of each other. Now that my mom has dementia, we have to sell one of these cars....and the Civic has got to go. All hype and not much substance.

As for Subaru's, I'd love to get one of those new Outback wagons. Does Subaru still make the Forester XT? That's the ultimate sleeper of a (performance) car.

    Ahhh... i see.

Well, do the swaybar first, it'll make a much bigger difference. :p Strut bar won't do much until the flex of the car actually becomes an issue. As in, after you ditch the rest of the rubbery floppy stuff on the car.

I could fix all theses cars easily-put a 40 year old throttle cable & spring on them and they would never have another stuck throttle! Seriously, a damn throttle pedal has more electronics in it nowdays as a TV! I hate drive by wire, my Dodge Truck & Harley has them. They just hang there for too long when you let off the throttle for me.

Uh yeah, and your Kawasaki is probably ugly-scary-fast. I'm a Harley guy but had the chance to ride a 1300 Hyabusa last year. OMG wow! Now mind you, I have driven 10 second race cars, and a 600hp Viper race car, but the thrill on that bike in the open air was over the top. I won't divulge when were and how fast but suffice it to say it will never happen again!

I love how people judge what I ride just by the brand name. I get a bit of amusement.
Very comfortable bike very fun and not as noisy as a Harley.

It's a sport touring bike not a stupid crotch rocket. Also have side bags as well when I need them. Do yours come off?

Yeah I guess the name goes along with fast performance. When you think of the brand name Buick what do you think of? Usually a luxury type car, not thinking the 1970 GSX is one of the fastest cars made! Nice rides! Heres my pride & joy. The bags do come off but it looks a bit strange.
I had never rode motorcycles until me & 3 of my best friends went through divorces all in the same year. We then all bought Harleys and headed west. It was the one of the best things I have ever done, the ultimate freedom that you have to experience to know!!

I can't see how this whole thing can be good for Toyota, period. Yeah Yeah Yeah I know turn a negative into a positive and all that male bovine excrement but that will not work in this case, hopefully. Hopefully American's will wake up. They seem like they want to wake up but have a ways to go.

    +1

We have owned Japanese cars for YEARS but decided to try an American car (09 Chevrolet Corvette) and have been impressed with it so far.

It seems like the Nissans, Hondas, and Toyotas of today are not the bulletproof Japanese cars they used to be.

I don't know. We have a Prius that was made in Japan...a friend of ours is driving it about once a week while we're away but it looks like he's killing the 12 volt battery--he's had to recharge it 3 times and the last time...it took 4-5 tries to charge..

Looks like that battery is shot...if I'm not mistaken this should have little to no effect on the 800lbs of nickel-hydride batteries under the rear seat..as they are recharged through (regenerative) braking and by the gas engine? At least I hope so. The problem is Maine in the winter....I doubt you can drive a hybrid 'once' a week for a couple of miles and not expect to KILL the battery!

Anyone have any experience with minimal hybrid driving in COLD climates....last year we were there so the car was charged almost every day.

Oh well.....not to high-jack the thread.
