Some dude walked into the wrong app in a 4 plex this morning .Cops aint saying his name till the tell the guys family, apparently he walked into an unlocked app this morning a 7.30 am kinda drunk. The family asked him to leave they say and he started getting roudy ,then after the man pulled out his shotty they said he ran at them. The boy was shot in the chest at point blank range and then walked into a vacant bd room where the kids would have been sleeping but they were at there grandparents this weekend. Cops are now considering changing the charge to homiside because he was unarmed. this was on 19 av moorhead mn

Guy should be given a medal.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

In Texas the guy would get a medal. In Minnesota he will get charged with murder, and most likely convicted.

This type of crap makes me want to move to Texas. What good is it to have a gun if you're charged for homicide whenever you use it?

Just because someone leaves their house unlocked doesn't mean it's a friggen invitation to walk in plastered and harass their family.

A drunk little kid? He's 17, 17 year olds kill people these days. It's certainly a sad story but I have more sympathy for the guy protecting his family then the **** who walked in.

... and he was only a drunk little kid? If this guy sees the inside of a courtroom for shooting this kid, then his parents should be charged as accessories to murder. Why is it this guys fault a drunk walked into his home. Where did the kid score the booze, whomever facilitated his getting drunk should also be an accessory... Why was the kid not at home in the first place?

As a former Marine... one shot=one kill. He would most likely have bled out from a shotgun blast to the leg delivered at point blank before medical care could have arrived.

Then the homeowner would have been sued for maiming a poor lil kid! If someone walks into my house, no questions asked he's beaten to death with a bat as I don't have a gun. I have a right to protect my wife and 12 year old from some drunken idiot invading my home.

I have a hard time believing that they taught you this.

For once I agree with John. You shoot to stop the threat, nothing else. When you start taking aim for certain body parts, that's valuable time that's wasted, and more time for things to go even more wrong.

What the hell is a shotty, is that the same as a shotgun ? Never heard a shotgun referred to as a shotty.

The guy comes up the stairs but instead knocks at my door, me an bill both had bball caps on and the lights was out in the open aired hallway, My mom was out at the bar so i opend the door to him and turned my back ,just to hear a dude shout 'c'mon muther f***er . I was thinking what the f.. have i done? " aint so **** tough now ? he said... he walked into my hallway and i said listen man i duno what the f.... this is about , he said you were shouting al kinds of **** out on the balcony , i though it was some **** i shouted at a couple of days ago for breaking bottles in the garden .The guy put his hands in his jacket as if he had a knife more than a gun, i said theres some mistake here buddy i dont even know you and dont want any trouble, he then started saying take the f.....kn bball cap off, so i did . Then at that moment he must have know it wasnt me and asked if he could c my balcony wich faces a wall, unlike bills, He was getting kinda frieked out because he knew he had trouble with next door, He started asking me , if i had a light and who my friends were and being all cool . The point is, i could have backed up went in my room and got a gun and shot that guy dead, he never even had a weapon because when i went to get him a lighter , i came back in the kitchen and he was going through the drawer for knifes and slamed it shut, he then left and i found out bill was waiting behind his door to shoot the guy and shitting his pants at the same time. +1 or do they simply try to find some reason for poor behaviors (such as cold killings!)?

One of the first things they teach you in any of those courses is if you are in a situation where you're going to fire a weapon, you aim for the biggest part you can, the torso. Any instructor who tells you otherwise shouldn't be instructing.

Should this kid have been shot for wandering into someone's house? No. But at some point he refused to leave and got belligerent. He was a trespasser. I don't know what "unlocked door" means to you, but it is in no way an invitation to come in, and it's certainly not an invitation to come in and then be an aggressor to the rightful homeowners.

It's not "cowboy" thinking, it's people who realize it's a crazy world and survival of the fittest is a law of nature.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Your story makes no sense. Who shot who? The guy who went into the wrong apartment shot somebody? Or did someone in the apartment shoot him?

Also, who "pulled out his shotty"? Finally, what is a "shotty"?

if i had a hangun then sure maybe i would have aimed for the torso but not with a shotgun, One of the first things i learned was my saftey zone. The instructor put a hand on my shoulder then as soon as he lets of he runs and i have to **** the clock and fir,as soon as i pop the first shot he stops, i look have far he ran ,and there you have your saftey zone distance

Call me paranoid but I usually locked the dead bolt and door knob on both doors (security door and the wooden door).

If I left it unlocked but the door is closed, it's not an invitation for someone to open the door and invite themselves in regardless of the age and gender.

If someone walks in without permission, I would warn and ask the person to leave. I usually put a bat or a small iron pipe around the house.

If there is an intruder, prepare to defend yourself. But shoot first, think later is not always the safest way to protect yourself or others. Gun Kills and without clear thinking on both sides, **** things are bound to happen.

I am a bit old fashioned but bats or brawls is my prefer method of self defense. Well, if he comes with a gun....I may be a dead meat.

Well for one, I always lock my door, always. and I live in an area with low crime. In Colorado we have the make my day law where you can shoot someone through your door that is trying to break in and could potentially endanger your life.

I would have shot him with a pistol, not sure if I would have pumped his chest with a shotgun. I'm a former Marine also, and was taught my safe zone is one arm's distance away, anything closer is considered you planning to harm me. But the home owner was protecting his family, so he really did no wrong in that.

As an LEO we are taught you have 21ft to react, draw and fire your sidearm before the average person will get to you at a run. Look up some videos online to see what a 12ga with either 00 buckshot or slugs will do to a human apendage at close range. Torso or not, they are going to bleed out quick.

As far as the legality of the shooting, who knows for sure. If the homeowner feared for his life and/or his family he has a leg to stand on. That being said the perp isn't here to testify against him.;)
