i am running a 100' length of cat 6 wire. but i only needed half that. always better to have extra than not enough...so long as it's quality. i was originally gonna route through the attic but short cutted through walls in rooms and beneath carpet along walls.

Anyone else on PS3 notice that it takes for ever to start the game, ie, connecting to server, updating your levels and challenges.... it takes mine for ever.

What is your NAT type on the online screen? Mine used to be like that when it was "type 2" I think (type something). When I enabled UPnP on my wireless router it went to NAT type "open" and connecting to a game is much much quicker now.

I think it's type 2 mine is hardwired, so can this be changed? it was fine up untill I reach level 60....

I put my PS3 in DMZ to get it to read open. Mine is hard wires as well. Saved me from forwarding ports since PS3 seems to use a lot of different ones.

Yeah, the type seems to be dependent on alot of different router settings you have (wired or wireless). What worked for me was the uPnP thing (my main router is a linksys wrt610 with DD-WRT on it). Depending on the router you have and firmware I'm guessing this option may or may not be available. DMZ/Port forwarding also seemed to work for other people, at least according to the searching I've done on it.

Since you are hardwired I'm sure there's a way to make it better. I'm going through a wireless router->wireless bridge->LAN port on PS3 and somehow still got it working. :p

I used to go straight wireless router -> wireless connection to PS3 and had NAT type 2, and suffered the really slow connection times, but at the time I thought it was normal. I got tired of the somewhat unreliable wireless connection on the PS3 so I decided to try using a wireless bridge into the LAN port on the PS3 for a better connection. As soon as I hooked that up, my NAT type went to STRICT, and I could hardly connect to a game at all, and would always lose connection half way through a game if I did manage to get connected.

That's when I started googling on the NAT type and found someone suggested enabling uPnP on the main router. Did that and now I'm type OPEN and connect really really fast and have a really strong connection.

Crap, I don't really know how to change the settings on my router. By enabling UPNP does this affect anything else?

360 or PS3? I was under the impression that IW fixed it on PSN. I tried it the other night to confirm, and unless I am an idiot (no comments, lol) it didn't work.. Also I noticed that with patch 1.08 that I downloaded over the weekend the Crackheaded Kenyan Care Package runner guy is no more either. Same speed with or without the care package marker (on PS3 anyway)

Level 66 here, and not sure if I will prestige or not when the time comes myself. I did in MW1, but not sure if I will this time around.

    This was 360.

There isn't one if you prestiged once. You got all the extra challenges, no reason to keep going.

There are extra challenges, it's worth it to do it just once.

It didn't affect anything else for me.

    UPnP wiki

Sounds like it might make things a bit unsafer depending on the types of websites you visit. I'm not worried about it. Otherwise, you can try putting your PS3 in the DMZ and googling all the appropriate ports to foward.

What kind of router is it? Do you know how to get to the administration page?

Prestiging every other time also opens up an extra class (1, 3, 5, 7, & 10th prestiges). So that's another reason to do so.

I've also read that the care package glitch is still active on the PS3 (post 1.08 patch), but I haven't played since last week to see it myself.

I was playing Sunday am and this one guy was able to get 32 kills and only 4 deaths. He brought out chopper after bomber after chopper. As soon as I'd respawn, I was dead. Complete BS!
The more I play the more all these glitches are pissing me off!

We aren't saying they did it on purpose... It would just be nice to play it without having every damn killstreak above you all the time. I'm taking a much needed break from the game, at least till this glitch gets fixed. Nuke boosters suck balls, but at least I have a little enjoynment hunting them down. However, I rather just play the game without any of these 10 year old shitheads ruining whats suppose to be a fun game (isn't that what playing GAMES is about?)

Ever since I downloaded bad company 2, I've had no desire to put in MW2 whatsoever. It was nice not having all the cheap **** and just pick one class and be done with it... But give me a few weeks and I'm sure I'll be back;)

I wasn't referring to anyone specifically, but thanks for falling on the whiny **** sword. ;)

I have been playing with the glitch going and while it can get annoying from time to time you can make it work to your advantage by stealing their packages. I haven't used the cheat once and my k/d ratio is still going up with all these problems.

You're right, if it does bother you the good thing to do is to stop playing until it's fixed. I don't understand the whining, though, as if it's going to get the patch implemented any faster. All online games have exploits highlighted over time...multiply that by the $1 BILLION worth of product they have sold so far and it's no surprise issues have cropped up. I could understand complaints if they weren't addressing them, but they are.

I downloaded the Bad Company 2 demo. I was bored with it after 5 minutes. The gameplay is terrible, IMO, but....there must be something I don't 'get' with that franchise since it does well.
