Nope. FiOS is still not available to me and until it is, I won't really care.

My work connection. At the same time we have our Exchange server, storage servers and store a lot of our code channels miles away so we are essentially on the backbone of the bay area.

Basically, speedtest.net cannot keep up with out connection. I can pull down 15GB builds from Steam within minutes.

Here is a test I just ran:

    and upload speed:0.87Mbps.

My new high speed DSL line from Frontier (7.6meg download)

    1315571209.png

Compared to my old cable modem from Comcast (12meg download)

    1315574950.png

On the good side, when they installed it:
    1. they moved the furniture in 3 rooms of my house and did not move anything back where it was.
    2. Disconnected my phones and did not plug any of them back in (and when i plug them back in - the DSL goes significantly slower than listed)
    3. Opened the phone box on the side of my house and left it open and a long phone cable lying in the grass
    4. Came to my house to install the DSL line and did not have a splitter so they could not plug in a phone and the DSL modem to the same outlet
    5. And last but not least, the longest phone cable they carried on their truck was 15' so they could not plug in the modem where I wanted it installed. (they guarantee installs within 25' of your phone jack).
So has ANYONE been happy with their switch from Cable to DSL cuz it does not seem to be working out to well for me.

DSL speeds always vary depending where you live.

Cable speeds seem more consistent, closer to what you're paying for.

Our download speeds have always been good but the upload rates suck.

It's not uncommon to download files once in a while at speeds of 8+mb/sec... as long as I can find a host who isn't being bogged down or throttled too much.

Not bad for a cable connection.

I recently installed two Dlink DIR 655's since I have a dead spot with all concrete sealing the theater room. The 655 is a very nice router, any one upgrading should definitely consider. Getting 300mbps speeds over the network is awesome.

    Speed using wireless.

We have been very happy with the speed and reliability of our Fios service. We have a very large house that is cut up quite a bit so I have the Verizon wireless modem plus a Dlink switch and a Buffalo wireless router working as a switch and access point feeding 4 desktops with ethernet and one desktop wireless along with 5 smartphones, 2 android tablets, an Asus T100 and a smart tv. Gaming browsing, and Netflix going all the time. I do think the Buffalo router is crapping out though so I am looking for a newer router to install more in the center of the house to stop the wireless hopping when you go from one end of the house to the other. I also want one I can attach a hdd to as a central storage device.

Not bad for being in the middle of the mountains. Does anyone else with Comcast that uses a lot of bandwidth (Netflix everyday, for example) notice their internet get slower/throttled towards the end of the month?

  • It just dawned on me that the different testing service could be way different, and they are.
Ookla is WAY higher that "speedtest" that is was using before.
Ping was 27, Down was 53.77, and up was 5.46 All triple what the other tests are reporting.
