So much for the 1gig line being what I thought it was, Even though it is 1 gig, they only dedicate 100 meg for internet, the rest is split up between HD cable and telephone service. Next down the pipeline and should be in my area soon is 200 meg fiber line so I'll be upgrading to that service. I did some downloads today using VUZE and it was nice to download at 3megs.

How does one byte get from Japan to New York? Fiber or Satellite? Anyone know?

Yes I don't know, but I assume Satellite. On this subject I realized I'm a major part of the Internet cloud at work since I play with 10.x.x.x stuff. :) Well I always felt 10 something was a heavy network system.

I do not know how you guys got the pic of the results. But here is a link to mine with wireless laptop and comcast cable. It cost to much, I am looking for a alternative, but we are limited in this area.

I don't know how accurate this test is. I was at my cousin's office yesterday and he has a new lap top that is wireless going through a router and it is lightening fast loading webpages and downloading files. I'm not sure of who his ISP is. When I ran this test it came up 9.xx which denotes a very slow down load speed. I did it several times and got the same results. I'm very:confused::confused::confused:

Any ideas as to why it is coming up so slow in the test?

Webpages aren't often that big. One of the things that will throttle them is the browser you're using more than anything.

And of course, if you've already got the page cached, it'll load a TON faster than normal.

    9mb/s isn't exactly slow, either. ;)

Symmetrical 1gbps is 1gbps up and 1gbps down. Since that is teh case, 310 mbps is only using about 30% of the total available bandwidth.

You can get symmetrical 1gbps feeds from Verizon with FiOS. It costs a bit more than the managed connection that they have but if you ask for it, they will send it to your house.

A friend of mine has a fiber switch at his house hooked up to a Cisco wireless system. He got FiOS and got a 1gbps symmetrical feed to his house.
