Great looking site. The only suggestion I have is alternate shipping. Some of us (that includes me) use a UPS store as a ship to address or a post office box number as we are located in a rural area. It would be nice to have the option of FedEx or UPS. Smaller items would be nice with USPS.

1422 I'm glad you like the look of the site, lot's of people worked really hard to get it to this point. You have a great suggestion and we hope in the future we can offer other shipping options for various special needs. The system we use internally has to merge (not an easy task) with the ebay site.
Today our system will support one shipping format and system. We chose Fed-ex based on the feedback from our distribution center that Fed-Ex worked best. UPS is a great organization as well and we ideally want to offer both.

Thanks again for your feedback...Keep it coming.

I made a trip into town today to pick up a item at the UPS Store and asked about Fed-ex shipping. It turns out that they will accept items shipped by Fed-ex, which I did not know before. All you do is have it shipped in your name c/o The UPS Store with the address of the one that you are using and you are good to go. I don't know if they all do this so it is best to check first.

How is it that Polk is required to collect sales tax if you don't have an actual presence in every state? With your warehouse in CA, that makes sense, but I don't see why there's a legal requirement to collect sales tax based on the lack of a physical presence in states where you have no warehouse/offices/stores.

    Just askin........

How about when one lives in a state like Delaware that has no sales tax? Would the tax have to be paid in these circumstances?

We have 12 regional sales people that cover and conduct business throughout the U.S. I'm not a tax lawyer or CPA but according to those who are we are required to collect tax in each and every state that we have representation. The tax is calculated based on where we ship. We only collect tax if required by that state. If you ship to a non tax state you will not be charged tax. We would love to be non tax and pass that savings on to our customers but we will always be diligent in accordance to the laws.

Hope that helps...BTW, since we're among family I would like to inform you that we are doing very well considering we just got started, thanks in part to your support in getting the word out.

Stay tuned we have some really neat stuff coming as soon as we fix all of the kinks.

No, only if your state has tax. Technically you should only have to pay tax for something on the internet if the company you are buying from has a license to do business in your state and have to fill out state business tax forms. You gotta watch out for that on the internet. There are companies who inflate the price of their products by charging you tax (in a tax state) that they don’t operate in and they pocket it.
I cant speak for Polk because I don’t know where and what states they file in, I’m just talking about generic companies.

no way, you don’t want to move to Oregon :)

Oregon has income tax. People in Wa who work in Oregon have to not only pay it but then pay sales tax in Wa. Oregon is one of the most messed up states in the nation for taxing, no one wants to pay tax's and the schools are a cluster as is just about everything. Oregon is an example of how a state can go wrong if it can’t get enough tax's. You step across the border to Wa and its 10 times better. There has been a massive migration of people from Portland across the river to Vancouver in Washington (along with Californians) in the past 10 year. Wa has some of the best schools in the nation. 200 yards apart (Columbia River) but massively different.

I sold a Holley carb that was sittin' on a shelf in my garage. It was never even opened so I listed it as "New, old stock". It sold to some jerk in Wisconsin who tried to low-ball me and skip out on the insured shipping he requested so I canceled his bid and went to the next highest one. It was a guy and his son in California restoring a '67 Mustang. They got sniped at the last moment so I took their highest bid and knocked like $20 off it to cover the insured part of the shipping. ($300 carb, insured shipping, two day express ain't cheap). But when the transaction was complete, ebay took sales taxes out of my proceeds because the part was sold in California and listed as new. I thought it was bogus but I wasn't going to fight with them over it. They did it to me with another auction I had up too but that one was listed as used and it went to some guy in Florida who tried to drop me negative feedback over it. Thankfully eBay stepped up and removed the feedback.

It's hard to guess all the rules with the eBay stuff but one job I don't envy at all is whomever runs eBay's legal department.

I wasn't aware that just having a representative in the area was the requirement for tax, because my understanding was that the 'presence' had to be a warehouse or retail store.....not just have a person in the state that is an account rep. I'm not at all implying you should break the laws.....just that you make sure you're not charging customers for something that may not be legally required.

If you're only required to collect tax in the states that you have representatives, then you should specify those states out at the bottom in the TAX section rather than imply that every sale requires tax. If you look at the Harman/Kardon factory direct auctions on Ebay, you will see they specify the states in which they have a retail presence requiring them to collect tax.

Ok this discussion has confused the heck out of me. As some know I run a small corporation which is inc. in Delaware with the home office based in Florida. I collect Florida tax but not many have been sold in Florida where most of my business is mid west and west. Only Florida is taxed so if I sold this on ebay then everyone would be taxed?

BTW I been thinking to do this before Polk did it.

Can Polk Bucks be used on the site ?

BTW, the site is a great idea, but it will take time to gather steam. I hope the bean-counters have the patience to see it succeed.

"Hi Guys" , sorry for the delay in my response. Just landed in Atlanta (70 degree's) from Baltimore (cold).

Right now we are working through a system compatiblity glitch with posting pairs of speakers on ebay and being able to make this reflect in our data collection system. We should have this resolved in a day or so and will be able to post more speakers. As you Guy's (men and women) know most ebay sales are generated by mom and pop type organization that don't have any IT merging issues. BTW, I'm a salesguy so I'm just as anxious to get all the speakers up on the site as you are.

Thanks for bearing with us. I promise we'll get some great deals up on more speaker pairs very soon. BTW, We refer to the speaker as Best, Better, and Good. ;)

The system is set up to only work with Paypal... Right now that creates quite a process for our IT and Accounting dept's. We'll try to get fancy with other options in the future when we become more familiar with how these systems integrate.

The people at Polk are very excited about this site and we spent a lot of time in discussion and planning. We will do our best to offer great values on the stuff we normally wouldn't sell through our dealer's. We believe if we do this and handle any and all purchase concerns promptly and fairly everyone wins.

Can't guarantee what's going to be on the site day to day but, I'm certain from time to time we'll have just about everything.

Thanks for your feedback... keep it coming

Guys / gals - Mark and I talked with Al and Russell (cool name!) at length on a conference call this week. Growing pains, nothing more. Just keep the link handy, and check it often - and as always, suggestions / input / feedback are ALWAYS welcomed, if not encouraged. The bugs will be worked out in short order, and TRUST - there will be something for everyone, just keep checking in.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Russell - Your name would be cooler if it was Mark but that's ok.

What are your thoughts on offering the the "odd" speakers, in regards to finish and style, and "prototype" style speakers to the forum only? I've seen a bunch at Polk HQ over the years and some of them are pretty cool. They have unique finishes and I bet the Polkies would love to eat them up.
