Not to mention, there would be a swarm of anti Hi-Fi insurgents like yourself and Randi ready, willing, but not able to defunct the fact that Coke in a double blind test actually does not taste like Pepsi. I have actually had the pleasure of tasting a Rum and Coke when testing a Pepsi, but that's a secret I won't let out of the bag either.

I'm not talking about company secrets. I'm talking about the general design behind audio cables. When the measurements show that the differences between two cables are well below what what the human ear can detect, what makes them sound different? The general answer is that we don't know how or what to measure for. And that may be so, but then how do they "design" the cable?

All I"m saying is... I don't understand cable design, but have heard the difference in IC's with my ears. I have not been so convinced with speaker cables, but I'm not going to tell somebody else they can't hear a difference. I'll save my money on speaker cables and buy some decent IC's to play with. Others should be encouraged to experiement on their own.

oooooohhhhhhhh....so its you who doesnt understand cable design......:o:p

Companies all over the world spend millions of dollars measuring the wrong thing to control product attributes that, in reality, have no effect on the attribute. Thus the millions of $'s spent on training engineers in 6-sigma design and DOE.

That is the most intelligent question so far in this thread. Good on ya'.

Maybe this should be the topic of another thread.

Ed Zachry, lets all try to keep it out of the FS threads. There is room and leniency for some fun and yuks, but someone might be trying to pay some bills, so lets trykeep it on topic in the FM.

No harm, no foul Jake - this is for the board, not you.

Heiney, I edited out the rules, and some of my post - It's not THAT big a deal, and I didn't want it to seem as such.

Let's just all have fun, and make it the board it has been, still is, and can become.

I'm with Russman, it all sounds the same! Nothing makes a difference, cables, power cords, tubes, d/a converters, internal wiring, capacitors, etc. I just buy the crap because it looks cool :) Most of the time I just sit and look at my system :p

+900000000000. Now those little pebbles that's where it's at. You don't have to spend big bucks either, just find the nearest dirt roar and pick up a hand full. I put one on the top of each of my speakers. They dig 10 hz deeper, and when they fall in front of the woofers, you can really feel the music. They do add a little graininess

6 sigma, DOE? Already outdated concepts, unfortuantely most of US manufacturing is about 5-10 years behind in these regards, but that's for a whole different thread. ;)

As for talking about cable design, it would be virtually impossible around here as you'd have maybe 5 people who could speak somewhat intelligently about the physics, metallurgy, etc... of the cables and most of them would avoid it like the plague (no, I'm not one of them, but I would recognize the concepts if not the mathematics). The real trick would be seperating the fact from fiction. Some cable companies talk about real issues but ignore whether or not it affects audio frequencies. Others just make crap up that sounds like physics and people take it as gospel. In the end it will get into the same shouting match every cable thread brings.

Hell, most people still haven't figured out Ohms law and power equations, let alone how RLC values would affect the sound and you would want to start asking about how using OFC Cu vs Ag would affect the signal? Yikes!
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

I found that the black tape lowered the noise floor, blue tape sounded cool and red tape sounded a bit warm. When blindfolded, I couldn't distinguish the differences in tape, but thats ok because I know that the validitiy of ABX testing is a myth perpetuated by scientists.
