The Ultra 13 exceeds my dual +'s in sound quality and seemingly output. I don't know about the downfiring cylinder but the front firing box moves so much air at reference level, you don't need a fan. Your Yammie sub couldn't dream of growing up to be like your new conversation piece. If my wife didn't take her camera, I'll start a new thread and post some pictures. The Rosenut finish is beautiful, but the box is extremely large. I'm wondering where to hide it and it's so nice it really shouldn't be.

I'll need to print out everyone's info from here. I'm clueless about what y'all are talking about:)
So we can't buy this cable you speak of locally?
Well our room is 25' and walls are 12'. Our attic has all sorts of ducts and vents to dodge....maybe we could get by with 50, he'll figure it out I'm sure. But I'd like to have everything ready by the time it's delivered.
Ron did you get the sub that you said could be a table? Erik didn't ask me anything about color so I assume I didn't have a choice. I'll have to see if I can find your thread you started with pics.

My wife's camping with some friends and took the camera this weekend, so unless I can fix the old HP...no pics,

The pics on the SVS site don't really do the finish justice, it's furniture grade. They offer finishes in Natural Oak, Rosenut and Gloss Black for a premium price. The cylinders don't have the option.

Here's some pics of a guy that got 2 to replace his Ultra/2.
You can see the new versions are nearly as big.

You guys have done a good job helping. This is a cool project. I think once you put RTi 6s up front and then move the 4s to the rear, you will have a complete and well rounded HT system that anyone would be proud of.

That sub is going to be interesting to setup... The RTi 4s present a slight problem when used as mains as you are going to have to set the sub's crossover pretty high. The main reason everyone here suggested new mains (fronts) is because when a sub needs to go that high, the sound becomes directional. This means that you might hear bass coming from the sub instead of from all around. I know this is costing a bunch of money, but your next upgrade, whether it is now or later, should be a larger set of front speakers like the RTi 6s. They are just small enough to probably still fit on your shelves sideways, like the ones you have now, but they are going to have deeper bass, meaning you can make sure the sub is only needed for the kind of bass that sounds like it is coming from "everywhere".

I am not sure if all that has been said or not, but I have read through this over the last few days and smile to see fellow polkies helping out. That is what I like about this forum.

Man those are monstrous speakers! Yes I know we'll need new fronts...but I need for my husband to come to that conclusion on his own first.
I know everyone has suggested the rti-6 but what's up with the new rti for 2008? Would the larger of the two work better than the rti6?

No it hasn't arrived yet:( I didn't leave the house thinking it would come...got a auto message from ups that it will be delivered tomorrow before 7pm...we never bought the cable/wire cause we wanted to see where to put it first. We went to Ultimate Electronics and they only had 38' for 100.00. We knew that wasn't long enough and they said it wasn't returnable...we will probably buy 15' and set it in the corner where the Yamaha is sitting now until we figure out the best place. Erik at svs suggested putting it on the back wall but that is right next to the opening to our diningroom and foyer. Our other back corner has only 16" d by 50" to the right of the door going out to the deck. I'm afraid it will get elbowed trying to open the door. If we do put the sub in the back of the room and if we can run it along the carpet unseen it will take 45'. If we have to run it thru the attic it will take close to 60' We hate to buy it any longer than necessary. Is this cable small enough to run under the edge of carpet?

Hi Ron I just finished reading your sub thread...congratulations! Looked like you'd just had a pedicure:)
I think my husband is almost afraid to hook up our sub...well not afraid of the hook up but on the settings. I hope it isn't complicated. We bought one of those sound meters at Radio Shack yesterday...I hope he can figure that out too:)

No it hasn't arrived...I'm still waiting impatiently...I'm wondering if I might be able to hook it up and surprise him..my brother and his wife are coming over and we're going out to dinner. I'm afraid he might not want to mess with it once it gets late....but I guess the hardest thing might be getting it outa the box:)

A watched pot never boils...it also never fails, that if UPS said until 7:00pm, that's when it's coming. The sub might be a bit tough for you, unpacked it's 105lbs. You could roll it, then tip it up? Hopefully you don't have cats, because the fabric is a great cathair collector :D

Well I did it...I had to use my feet and legs to push it across the floor but I managed to get it set up in the corner. I ran the wire but I was afraid to hook it up and plug it in. If I'd known I could roll the dxxx thing my back wouldn't be hurting right now:)
Oh and yes my cat loves her new box. She followed the ups guy all the way into the livingroom:)
I am running late but I wanted to upload these for y'all to see. I kinda hid the Ultra behind a plant hoping my brother wouldn't call it a water tank:) You know how family can be...painfully honest:)

Very nice, I was waiting to hear from you, I think I was more excited about you getting your first SVS than anything else. Cant wait to hear your 1st impressions of the beast, wow it is huge. You may wanna be careful of your 1st listen and pay close attention to your items on your entertain system so they dont fall off.

It just doesn't look right...you need another one in the left corner for symetry :p .

Congrats...go have a nice dinner...it would be best to wake it up before kitty has any ideas. I've got 4 cats, but I demoed Master and Commander right away and while curious, they were afraid of the water heater and never touched.

Sweet! Wish I could justify the new Ultra upgrade myself! If your brother makes fun of you just give him a good demo after you get it dialed in. The opening scene of Master and Commander is a great suggestion.

And a comment about the RTi4's being laid on their side. This has probably already been covered but IMO I would find a way to stand them up. As has been suggested in this thread placement helps with the sound and those speakers are designed to sound good standing up.

Well we got it all hooked up and ran the audessy and he did the SPL meter thing and made some adjustments...OMG the bass sounds unbelievable:D
I wasn't in the room when he first hooked it up, I was in my utility room and I'm not sure what he did but the earth shook and the base came into the utility room thru the air duct!! Thank god I didn't need to go pee cause I think it woulda vibrated it right outa me:o
I don't remember anyone saying the speakers sound better standing up, but I trust y'all know what you are talking about. I didn't notice sound from the fxi speakers on the back wall but I think we need to get over the shock before we make to many more adjustments. The bass is so deep and smooth..it's not like that rattle the doors bass. It's hard to describe how awesome it sounds. I'm sure my husband will bring home a DVD tonight. We have only listened to the Mummy so far.
Well I need to get the rti6's ordered so they can get shipped. Thanks to everyone. When we do more tweaking I'm sure I'll be hollering for suggestions:)
You can't justify spending a ridiculous amount of money for sound..you just have to decide what you can live without to get it into you budget:) All I have to say is the sooner you get what you want, the longer you have to enjoy it...we're not getting any younger ya know.
Oh and by the way, my brother was speechless..that was a WOW in itself:p

You've now officially join the ranks of bassheads anonymous :D There is no cure, but it does get better.

You've got yourself a wonderful product. Corner placement might make the sound a bit thick at the bottom...it does at my house in comparison to my previous placement. This can be fixed through the room compensation feature, tuning and the PEQ feature on the amp. It's not quite as complicated as it sounds in the manual. Ed Mullen, from SVS (Doc Spec on this forum) walked me through it.

I'm sorry, my house is a wreck and I have 7 grandkids arriving for the weekend any minute....we love our bass...can't wait for the rti6 to arrive....my husband is thinking of moving the ultra to the other corner but I can't talk him into putting it where Erik suggested...the wire won't run under our carpet and it would have to be ran thru the attic...he's putting it off:)
    Have a great weekend!

The Sooners better win so my husband will be in a good mood the rest of the weekend;) He's really a sore looser:rolleyes:

Wow, so you went ahead and ordered the new fronts. Lets see... RTi 6s, CSi5, SVS sub, FXi, surrounds...

That kind of system can rival the REAL theater experience. Congrats. Grab a big stack of DVDs and impress your grandkids! Imagine how much it would cost to take them to the movies all the time, this stuff will pay for itself! (the secret is you have to keep rationalizing all the new toys.)
