    ^^^^^^Thanks for the heads up^^^^^^^

Mint condition SDA 1C's from the original owner. I picked them up yesterday and they sound good but I'm going to make them better with...

    RDO-194's
    Upgraded crossovers
    Spikes
    Dynamat

...and then I'm going to find or build a tube amp. What minimum WPC tube amp should I seek?

Thanks George, I'm wondering if Nickolas812's Simple SE with KT88's would drive these speakers more than adequately?

Define adequately? You won't blow out your windows or anything, but i think it'd be nice at reasonable listening levels... i think. I don't know much about the 1Cs, but it made a set of Monitor 7s sing nicely at volumes beyond what i personally would listen to.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

He states it's a 5 watt amp in triode mode and around 10 watts in UL mode. Minimum WPC rating on the 1C's is 50 WPC and I think they are rated at 8 ohms. Of course a watt is not always a watt...I'm not looking for high SPL's, I just don't want to hear sloppy bass.

a very good way to get into a tubed pre--ptp wiring,, you won't/don't see these as often now that Mr Wright has passed-- the good news is that a good tech can follow the circuit design pretty easy should you need repair or prefer tweaks--jerryj12 has one that has been modded,,and it's that good.I'm still waiting on mine.

Not really. (Unless you already bought it...then it's a great deal!) The M5G is basically the same TT as the "standard" 1200, with an LED light and cosmetically better slide lights. Looks cool, but sound is pretty much the same. There was a gold plated hardware version a couple years ago, which was again, cool looking, but sonically the same as a standard 1200.

A fair price for an average (i.e. DJ-used) 1200 in good condition is around $250. You won't find the cover with it, but one can be had for around $40 on eBay.

An "audiophile"-used version is worth a bit more, since it probably has been used by someone like you or me and not banged around.

The nice thing about these TT's is that ANY part can be bought for it, and there is a big aftermarket for DIY mods for the 1200's. It's been produced continuously since 1972. Check out www.kabusa.com to get an idea of what can be done to them.

I've owned several of these over the years, and modded some of them. They sound great out of the box, however, and compete with uber-cost TT's on a performance level. I finally came across a Sony PSX-75 sealed in the original box a couple years ago, and jumped on it. This was. IMO the pinnacle of TT technology, and compares sonically to the 1200s. And it's fully automatic with the biotracer arm. Paired with a Technics U205CMK3 (which is a boron-tube cantilevered cartridge) and I'm done upgrading for life.
