That is interesting. Not too difficult. I had planned to take them to a guy in Ft Mill, SC that I bought my RTA12's from. Life got in the way and I've lost his contact info.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.
Bedroom system: Carver CT-24, Parasound HCA-800II, Monitor 10's
Additional projects: RTA 12c's -
It would be nice to see him do a video with the thin rubber surrounds like Polk used. I'm betting those are much more difficult, but probably rarely need to be repaired fortunately.George / NJ

My friend's AR TSW410s had 8" and 6" speakers that needed surrounds.
The re-foaming jobs were just like the big ones but less space UNDER the cone to get finger tips in to compress the cone to the new surround. And there was less space around the pole piece compared to a 12" woofer but they turned out great. Oh, these cones were cleaned so well by another friend that there was no old glue line on the cone to go by. I carefully and slowly drew a pencil line on the cone with the new surrounds in place with no glue yet. The guide lines turned out to be to small and I caught it quickly before putting pressure on the glued surround. I adjusted accordingly and no glue had oozed beyond the surround rim yet. I got lucky and learned a lesson.
I still don't know why the marker lines were too small in diameter...They should've been spot-on.
Patience, precision and in the end of each glue down, keep checking to see if the cone is rubbing the pole piece or coil. I think out of a bunch of re-foam jobs, I only had one 12" cone I had to pull in one direction to align it better.
If you follow that guys method in that video, most people will have success unless you don't have patience.
Note: There was a gasket UNDER the rim on the AR's 8" woofer. I studied the new surround and felt taking the gasket off aligned the speaker's surround's level to the basket rim better. There's talk about leaving the gasket on and / or removing it. and The owner of those AR TSW410's and I studied the situation thoroughly before removing the gasket. We feel we did the right thing.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Patience and go slow. I highly recommend not trying to do both sides in the same day. Give it an over night rest and you'll be rewarded.

I agree100%.
I sometimes cleaned one day, then rested.
The next morning, glue surrounds to the cones.
Then, maybe the same night, glue the cone and surrounds to the frames or wait another day.
The ARs in the pic. were glued to both the cone and then the frame the same day AFTER about 5 or 6 hours after the surrounds were glued to the cones first. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I've seen a few speakers like those too.
People who can't color inside the lines should not re-foam speakers. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I know EPI got great reviews back then. I had chances to buy EPI's at many yard-sales LONG AGO but passed them up due to rotten surrounds.
Those remind me of Polk's older SDA-CRSs with 2 tweeters but of course, I know, maybe it's the size of the box with 2 woofers and 2 tweeters on the faces thing. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I saw these EPI 180s yesterday and couldn't help but notice that it appears someone did a very sloppy refoam job on them.

Reviews are not necessarily all positive. Other EPI models perform better.

I LOVED mine for many years until it wouldn't output power. I have a 3rd tech trying to fix it. The second tech got one channel to work and then gave up. This third tech is puzzled as well.
I did love to see those wattage peaks. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Not sure that it's a steal at min. bid $200 but very interesting M&K S1 Sattelite speakers pair with the Peerless Tweeters. Without the subwoofer apparently. No affil.

Yeah they are! I only recently became aware. Apparently that model came out in 1978 and it is hard to find details on them but some rave reviews on forums. They may be the originators of the sattelite/subwoofer concept. The SV-200 is very interesting and I'm putting in a saved search. 18Hz to 20,000Hz +/- 3dB with a powered subwoofer built in with 200W amplifiers.

10K retail speakers aren't likely to be used with a cheap receiver. I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Agreed but everywhere I've looked they are $2500 per pair so the list price of $5000 ea. seems to be marketing tactic.George / NJ

Interesting. How does a passive radiator work when it's in a separate cabinet?
-
That was my first thought!
There has to be a port connecting them or the owner doesn't know what he/she has.
I'm going to the web on this right now. Yup, a huge portal between the two cabinets.

You must buy them and find out!
