Hehe. John just gave me some good advice and contact information. I also went to the PASS website and read the owner's manual where it says in bold that you must make all the connections from the pre-amp to the power supply before turning it on!
No way to verify if the seller did not do that, although the pics show that they are connected. Big risk, IMO. Still noodling this, but may be worth a drive down to Naperville. Not that far from my hometown in Lockport, IL., where I plan to visit on Saturday!

If you look at the very first picture in the listing, you will see clearly that one of the required cables is laying on the counter and not connected to the preamp. It is off on the far right, 1/3rd of the way down. NOW if you go to his add, you will see ALL his pictures have changed to show the cables plugged in! I guess we had a good connection after all and he hung up on me after I stared asking about the cables... Also, if you look at the tiny blue power lights on the L/R chassis', you will see that they are off in the first pic and on in the second one. Proof positive the guy screwed up and that he is trying to be shady about it.
As of now, I would not even darken his doorstep with my shadow, much less actually go in the place.

Fluance turntables have been getting some pretty good reviews. I'm on the wait list for the RT85, but have been waiting a couple months. Looks like the Amazon prices are $30 less than direct from Fluance, but they only have the RT80 and RT81. Nice deal! -

I've got the RT82 and it's pretty nice. I saw no point for me to go with the RT83 as I already have "upgraded" cart options.
