Lol! I work from home and typically when I am filling in the gaps of my day when I need a break from looking at CAD, I’ll come on here or look at CL. If the latter, I always click another screen really quick if the wife comes in. Just easier than explaining “just looking honey”
You would think I’m looking at something inappropriate lol

Yes, I got that. and I still stand by what I said. There is just some gear out there that has a reputation above and beyond...those names include Pass Labs, D'Agostino, Conrad Johnson, Audio Research...

I didn't say the Ampino Pre was bad, I just think for that price bracket, a used Conrad Johnson tube pre is a much better buy. Not to mention the fun and flexibility of rolling tubes.

One thing to note about the Ampino and the CJ is the difference in gain. The Ampino only has 4 db while the CJ has roughly 16. Could be an issue for some.

Tony the high gain would manifest how? Appear to be too loud at lower volume settings? Noisy? Please advise.

Ok I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a whole lot about Klipsch speakers. I do know that they have a large following, especially of their vintage gear. These are 5 grand, I'm not contemplating purchasing them but are they truly worth this much?cygmx00joa83.jpghttps://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ele/d/klipsch-la-scalla-2-speakers/6689101218.html

Those look like original La Scala’s. I’ve heard the new ones, albeit not setup well, and I liked them. Nice clarity, soundstage, and BRIGHT. About as bright as I could take, and I love a bright speaker. A new set costs $4k a piece, seems like a deal, if only to flip.
Klipsch seems to be a “you love it or you hate it” kinda thing, IMO.
(Edit:) just looked at the bottom of your post, listed as La Scala’s, got it right the first time. :)

That's considerably on the high side. Check with the folks over on the Klipsch forum, you'll find better deals. The La Scala is a nice speaker, especially when they ahve been modded. There was a vendor at LSAF this year that had a speaker setup based of modded Belles, which are basically the La Scala, and they were among the best at the show.

This seems like a good deal on a Krell Pre. Just over 1 large. PAM5, highly touted, and excellent phono circuit.

Have you actually tried the Ampino Preamp vs the CJ? Or are you just basing this off of the "reputation" of Conrad Johnson?

I have spent extensive time with both. I don't preach it if I don't practice it.

Better deals on Klipsch forum. Some heavily modded Belles and La Scalas can be had for substantially less than this. Done right they are some sweet speakers.

With a niche product like this, any posted/published performance feedback like reviews, listening impressions, or general thoughts would go a long way.

I'm simply surprised that he never posted about it despite having spent "extensive time" with it.

    Integrated unit though, right?

Yep. It holds its own on efficient small to medium speakagers.
If you are looking for an arc welder that can drive a pair of Wilson's or any type of planar....this is not your integrated. If you want your Infinity RS series to forget they have woofers.
    This is your integrated...

Those are some of the prettiest "big cabinet" Klipsch's I've seen in 20 years.

The other ones were the Klipsch Horns. they were 3600.00 I think 20 years ago on Ebay. The wood finish was just like these. Perfect. :pB)
