Shack that is a good story. I was at the driving range watching my son practice on Sunday before the tourney, and I was watching this 12 year old girl belt drives that would make me sweat. She was easily hitting them 225-250, what an incredible swing she had. But who knows what the short game is like. You only use the driver about 14 times a round, its all the other clubs that make the difference.

The other thing that was a little intimidating was the country club feel to some of the parents. One child bag I walked by had a very nice set of Callaway FT-i's driver and hybrids with a set of the X-20 irons. I also was a score keeper for the 9-10 year old boy group, and one child had a TM r7 driver. He was poking it out there 175-200. Not knocking the parents, but x-20's I feel is overkill for a child golfer. Makes it hard for me when my kid asks me for a set. Who knows maybe the kid that scored the 39 had the set of X-20's.

One other thing, the winning score in Ryan's age bracket (11-12) was a 39 . And yes they played from the regular tee's. Maybe the front tee's but even I do not think I can score a 39 from the front tee's. Low 40's for sure, but that kid would have beat me for sure.

Played a short 9 hole course yesterday and shot 3 over par. Wish I could find that "switch" every game.

This should teach us alot about course management. Put the driver up unless you need to hit hit it 250 yards. Take a typical par 4, 370 yards. Hit a nice 3 or 4 iron 210 to 225 yards off the tee and you have a 8 iron (in the fairway) into the green.

No thank you. 250 yds ± leaves me with a wedge in my hands most of the time. I'll take that over a 7 or 8 iron anyday...even from the rough. I make more birdies with a wedge than I do with a putter. Yesterday is a good example. I had three tap in birdies from less than 3 feet...all because of my approach with a wedge.

Buying a really nice wedge has been the best thing for my game so far. That and learning how to hit it consistantly.

Okay so I played earlier this week, went pretty good. I shot a 90, my drives were all over the place, but my irons and short game were rock solid. My putting score was 26, I only had one 3 putt.

I wish I could find a driver that felt good to me. It just seems like some weeks it stays straight and other weeks I cannot hit the broad side of a barn. Thats golf I guess, but I need more driving range time I think.

You and me both. Usually driving is the better part of my game. Right now its terrible. I hit it straight as an arrow, then about half way out, it turns sharp right like a jet fighter banking right hard. It sucks. Can't figure out what I am doing, at least to the point where I know what to do to fix it.

Playing twice this weekend. Both nicer courses in the area. Tomorrow's round is a tournament against my professional peers, including my boss. Should be fun. Shotgun scramble if I recall correctly.

Oh and its hot. Last time I played in weather this hot it looked liked I was a woman that had peed her pants. It was pretty sexy.

Winter is coming... who is getting their last rounds in? I'm going to try and continue to play until the snow is flying or the wind is blowing too hard.
Since the beginning of the season (which was May for me) I have dropped my handicap about 7 strokes. I now shoot in the low 80s rather consistently. I bought a set of Titleist 690MBs 2 days ago. Next season I'm really going to work on developing a consistent swing and taking advantage of the workability of a muscle back.

I think if I get off to the right start next season I may be able to drop into a single digit handicap, which wouldn't be too bad considering I've been playing for a little under 3 years now I think.

my short game has really been on fire lately too. problem is though that I can't get much spin off my wedges. I'm dropping some bombs allover the pins but they never check up, unless i'm playing Pro V1x. so i'm going to look into some Vokey wedges that are spin milled. I think that may be the only way to get the results that I am looking for.

    hope everyone is doing well!

If that's the ball that gives you the best spin, then that's the ball you should be playing. You should actually get more spin with the regular Pro V1.

The ball has more to do with spin than your wedge as the clubs are really all about the same (or should be according to specs). There are several balls out there that spin as much or more than the ProVs and are cheaper. Here is a chart from Golf Magazine indicating spin rates of various balls they tested that might help you choose another ball.
These are for a 76mph sand wedge.

    High Spin Balls

    1. Nike One Platinum @ 13,451 rpm
    2. Wilson Tx4 @ 12,454 rpm
    3. Nike One Black @ 12,431 rpm
    4. Titleist Pro V1x @ 12,299 rpm
    5. Srixon Z-URC @ 12,250 rpm
    6. Bridgestone e5+ @ 12140
    7. Bridgestone Tour B330 @ 12,137
    8. Srizon Z-URS @ 12,137
    9. TaylorMade TP Black @ 12,062
    10. Titleist Pro V1 @ 11,914
    11. Taylormade TP Red @ 11,872
    12. Bridgestone Tour B330S @ 11,866
    13. Callaway HX Hot Bite @ 11,331
    14. TaylorMade Burner TP @ 10,894
    15. Titleist NXT Tour @ 10,612
    16. Wilson Zip @ 10,518
    17. Callaway Tour i @ 10,473
    18. Wilson Luxe @ 10,333
    19. Top Flight Gamer @ 10,087
    20. Callaway Tour ix @ 9,990

For the price I would really consider the Bridgestone e5+, the Wilson Tx4 or the Callaway HX Hot Bite.

Yeah my season is just starting. Here in AZ some of the best golf is right now. Mid 80's and zero wind.

Not playing better, but I have not done worst. I am still shooting low 90's high 80's. Ny son has dropped 10 strokes since he started his golf league. Last week he shot a 58 for nine holes. Not bad being twelve.

Love the Calloway Balls. Never been a big fan of the Pv1, I just always hit them horribly, and then when I lost one in the desert...I felt like crying. It's too much money to lose.

If you don't hit the ball straightish then more spin makes things worse.

I like the Wilson Trues myself. Still have about 10 dozen left from 3 years ago.

Or even the very enispensive Wilson Prostaff when it's damp.

Playing Sunday with the Bro In-Law!!

Played 36 today shot 81-84....Osan is a pretty short track but it's got a few challenges.

Does anyone besides me still play persimmons? I carry Wilson Staff 4w and 5w.....and have for about 3 years now. I've found since going back to real wood, my overall game has improved tremendously. I find that the weight of the heads and so forth has really made me smooth out my swing and I really have to concentrate on hitting them on the screws an it has carried over in to my irons as well.....plus, the sound of a well struck persimmon is just cool.

I'm going to disagree a bit w/Shack though....I'll take a 8 iron from the middle of the fairway over a wedge from the junk any day. For me, most par 4's are between 350 -375. Ok, 375...I hit my 4w 240 just like clockwork. That leaves me no more than a 9 iron and I'll take that all day long. Now, my driver, 270....that leaves me 105. Now I'm screwed. I hit SW 95 yards and my PW 125 (I don't have a GW)...so that's a bad yardage for me...It just depends on your game.

As far as balls, if you catch it cleanly, you can make just about any ball spin....but catching it cleanly is easier said than done. I've been playing Maxfli Noodles for a couple years (since they stopped making the Top Flite XL3000 spin balls) and like them pretty well and they are cheap cheap.

Now, if I could just get my putting in order......
