My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I was spinning the Auto American LP a couple of days ago. The lyrics are a little corny...but were probably apropos for the time...and I actually like the tune. Certainly not a "worst song ever" IMO.

shack, I took back, un-submitted and retracted my nomination of Blondie's "Rapture" after checking out Strong Bad's submitted "Mother" stinkbomb by the Police - still can sense the stench in hear after giving that a listen! And, I'm a fan of Sting-a-Ding-Ding ("Makin' copies!") and the boys! It is odd though, I had remembered Synchronicity as an all-around good album. However, I think the last time I had listened to it all the way thru was years ago on a home-recorded cassette tape where I must have deleted said "song" and simply repressed it's very existence into the dark confines of some rarely-accessed gray matter!

I believe the song "Mother" on Syncronicity is purposely written and performed to be horrible. That is the point of the song. That's what I got out of the song anyway.

Wow, Strong Bad, I take back my mention of Rapture! I gave your nominee, "Mother" by the Police a listen....and YES, we have a perfect 10 on the suckometer!!!

The way I see it, Gordon Sumner owes everyone who ever listens to that garbage 3 minutes back!

    There we go!!!

I see people mentioning Final Countdown by Europe, Starland Vocal Band, Disco music and many others...all of those are Grammy material when compared to Mother! I seriously think Andy Summers was blackmailing the band with something so they would allow that song on Synchronicity. I'm still holding out hope that one day The Police come to their senses, wipe that song from the history books and reissue Synchronicity without it.
    No excuses!

"Hodysafa" by Steely Dan. I hate this song so much, I'd like to take anyone and everyone associated with producing this song, and shove them in a wood chipper, like in 'Fargo'

I've got you all beat;

    Artist: Napoleon XIV
    From: Dr. Demento's Delights
Song: They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!

    Lyrics:

Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And..
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
    They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
    They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!

I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they'll find you yet and when they do they'll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
    They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming
    to take me away, ha-haaa!!!
To the happy home, with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haa!!!

I love music. I try to be tolerant and understanding. When someone rejects or just plain hate a song, I try to find some goodness to that particular song. There is one song, ONE song that gets into my soul and just wrecks me completely.
No other song in history has ever had that effect this song has. I HATE IT! I CAN'T STAND IT!
    IT DRIVES ME INSANE!!!
Enough ranting. the special song is Loving you by Minnie Riperton.

Anything by Bryan Adams is like razor edged hot spikes being jack hammered into my ear drums, but if I had to pick only one all time crappy song it would have to be "The Final Countdown". Absolutely pure undiluted fully fermented shiite.

As for "Mother" by the Police. The weird cacaphonic carnaval music and the desperate anguished singing is intentional and very effective. It's annoying as all get out but that's the point. He is so distraught at the thought of his mother calling again he sounds ready to off him self. Especially combined with the realization that "Every girl I go out with becomes my mother in the end". I personally think it's brilliant song writing and performed exactly as intended. Grating, bizzare, uncomfortable, finger nails being scratched down a blackboard. Just like he feels about mother. Who said all song writing and performance needed to be warm and fuzzy?

    I am gagging as I type this;

Honey (I miss you) by Bobby Goldsboro

See the tree, how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
    It wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig
    Then the first snow came
And she ran out to brush the snow away
    So it wouldn't die
    Came runnin' in all excited
    Slipped and almost hurt herself
And I laughed till I cried
She was always young at heart
Kinda dumb and kinda smart and I loved her so
And I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all Christmas Eve two years ago
And it would sure embarrass her
When I came in from workin' late
    'Cause I would know
That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'
Over some sad and silly late, late show

    And honey, I miss you
    And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you
    If only I could

She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad
    But what the heck
Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me
    And hugged my neck
    I came home unexpectedly
    And caught her cryin' needlessly
In the middle of the day
And it was in the early Spring
When flowers bloom and robins sing
    She went away

    And honey, I miss you
    And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you
    If only I could

One day while I was not at home
While she was there and all alone
    The angels came
Now all I have is memories of Honey
And I wake up nights and call her name
Now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played
    And love grew up
And a small cloud passes overhead
And cries down on the flower bed
    That Honey loved

And see the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
    It wasn't big
And I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig
