There has to be other life someone in the universe. More than likely some sort of inteligent life. If you just think how mind boggling vastly humongously giganticly huge the universe is, there has to be something out there some where. Will we ever see it, probably not. Again, just think how mind boggling vastly humongously giganticly huge the universe is. Not to mention how we are just a small pin **** in time. What are the odds someone close enough is going on at the same time?

Have they travelled here? Again, just think how mind boggling vastly humongously giganticly huge the universe is. How long would it take to get here? Like the ship crash in roswell. Although I would love to believe it was really aliens, but they traveled 27 gagillion miles only to crash on the last mile? I think they would have figured how to get here safely.

But I do believe we will find life (or existance of past life) in our solar system before another one. We now have 2 good moon cadidates around jupiter that both seem to have liquid water.

The universe that we think we know about is huge. It can be one of trillions more. Asking are we alone is like an Amoeba thinking it is the only life in the universe. There has to be life out there in some form. Even if life can only survive on a fraction of planets, there would still be billions of life forms.

The main problem is that the rest of the universe will be so overrun by Starbucks and Bose speakers that no one will want to live there either.

hehe... i remember that sketch, that's a good one...

pablo makes an interesting point about parallel universes (and no, they're not just in the realm of science fiction, real respected physicists have been taking a serious look at this)... that, and our observable universe is but a fraction of the entire universe... what fraction exactly is unknown, but we know we can't see everything that's out there, cause the light hasn't had time to reach us yet... those two things add whole orders of magnitude to the number of possibilites for life...

This is the final insult. The little **** are now building their spaceships in the form of snack food. :D

A UFO, described by witnesses as looking like a huge “Dorito” crisp has been filmed over the skies of the Black Country, according to a paranormal group. A flurry of calls has been made to Stourbridge-based UFO Research Midlands (UFORM) from those claiming to have witnessed the flying object in the sky. Witnesses say they spotted it in Halesowen heading towards Stourbridge on Wednesday at around 7pm.

UFORM is now appealing for anyone else who saw it to get in touch to help it compile its X-files.Steve Poole, UFORM chairman, said one man filmed more than 30 seconds of footage of the craft travelling in a westerly direction from Halesowen to Stourbridge. He said: “The object has been described as looking like a huge Dorito and had distinctive red lights on its underside, which moved position while the craft was flying.”

Anybody in this area see anything like this? Quite fascinating.

Here is one way to look at the universe. DO NOT scroll down to the bottom, it will take away the impact of the story.

BTW, it was written by Isaac Asimov and was regarded as one of the best short stories of the 20th century.

I first read that when I was in high school in the late '60s. Gave me chills at the end. I now have it in my library. Excellent short story! And who knows...could be dead on correct!

Same here. Most of the flying saucer types are, well, even more
    out there than Polkies.
The problem is, the distance and logistics of going between worlds will prevent us from seeing any of those others.

I think Demirge pretty much hit it on the head.

I think the argument is pretty mute since as I recall, They believe that they have already found the existence of simple life on Mars and are sure enough of it that they are spending billions to send more robots over there to look for it (soon).

Statistically, as I recall from college, there could be millions of planets exactly like earth. They are actually starting to catalog planets like this. If I am reiterating right, they have a small list already they are building (is it 8?) that hold the possibility for simple life (with pictures of them).

Scientists have also noted in the last month that they are creating extremely simple life from the "organic soup" components in labs right now while trying to figure out how it all started.

We are talking about a field of study here that is still in its infant stage and we are in a period of it right now of great advances. I keep up on this stuff and there’s a lot of things changing, theories and such.

I have no doubt that there is simple life out there in the universe on a broad diversity. I really don’t think the process for it to come about is all that difficult in its making.

But complex life (let’s say to the point of an Ameba) is totally different. Statistically speaking I think its out there but nothing at all in the form of Earth which came about from 2 billion years of mutation and specific Earth environment.

Intelligent life... doubt it. Even Gene and the Star Trek universe eventually went to a theory that all the races in ST were planted on planets billions of years ago.

It goes back to war of the worlds:

If there was any species of intelligent life that could travel the vast distance to earth, we would probably be seen as pretty much amebas like life on the planet and they would be more interested in the plants resources.

I think that the universe as God originally created it was full of life. However, several passages in the Bible (e.g. Genesis 1:1-2, Romans 8:19-22, Revelation 12:7-9) indicate that the universe was ruined by an angelic war and that this planet was remade as a "starting over" point.

So my belief is yes, aside from angelic life, we are alone.

Hmmm. I've never heard those sections of the Bible referred to in that way. Yeah, that there was an angelic war, but not that it destroyed the universe. Interesting anyway.

But my wife must be from another planet because her green card says she's a "resident alien."
