You know, it's a shame when you bring home a new toy and can't even really
play with it till you know the freezing weather is gone for the season. I want
to fire the 496 Mag up real bad but if I do then I have to go through a ritual
of purging all the water from the raw water side of the cooling system and
that takes more than an hour and numerous drain plugs have to be removed.
C'mon winter.... GO AWAY!
The 496 Mag should have a schrader valve at the top of the fresh water heat exchanger that you just push compressed air through. They even come with a little hand pump cliped on the front of the engine to do this manually. Shouldnt take more than 10-15 min to winterize. -

Yes it has a Shrader and yes it has an air pump but the engine manual states
that to fully drain the system (to prevent possible freeze damage) the heat
exchanger end caps should be removed as should the riser drain plugs. And
that is a chore.
I could always just hook a five gallon bucket up to the motor flusher and suck
some RV antifreeze through it when done.. That would do the trick in less than
five minutes. -

That is exactly what i do with my new boat. I mix it up in a bucket and use a little submersible electric pump to the fresh water flush hook ups and just run each engine until i have the correct amount coming out the tail pipes. -

Ok lets see... You know how to winterize a 496 mag and you have a boat that
has two engines. I am going to take a wild guess here... Baha? Sunsation?
Formula??

Honestly as far as boating is concerned dual engines don't add much speed.
There are very FEW boats that can top 80MPH and even fewer that can
break 100MPH (and beleive me when I say anything faster than 50 on the
water is like warp speed, it's a whole other world out there..)
I just watched a video of a 39' Skater that broke 155MPH it took two Sterling
engines each producing 990 horsepower to do that.
When I picked up my 230SX at Grand Sport Center in Morris, IL they had a
brand new 39' Cigarette Top Gun in stock ($770,000.00) with dual Mercury
Racing SC1075's that's over 2K Horsepower and it just barely hit 110MHP.
Water is like concrete, you just never realize it untill you A: Belly Flop from
30' in the air or B: Own a boat!
My boat will realisticly top out at the 70 MPH mark with a "light load" that's
about a 250Lb Driver and half a tank of fuel (and those are GPS numbers
not speedo which is innacurate as all hell). With the HO version of my motor
the best I have seen from the same boat with the 496 HO which is 425 Horse
at the prop (mine is 375) is still only high 70's to low 80's.
A friend on the Stingray forums has hit GPS 89MPH with a hellatiously "labbed"
Mirage prop and a 502 EFI (415 Horse) and I am not sure if he used his
Nitrous Oxide bottle to get that number or not.. He has a 175 horse shot of
nitrous on board. -
I have a 32' Baja with twin 509s. GPS 94mph
My previous boat was a 342 with twin 496HOs, but i had some business deals go bad so i sold it and bought the 32' from a friend of mine.
I have been looking at some nice 4-6 year old Cigarettes lately, and they have leveled out on a nice depreciation so i will probabyl leave Baja. -

HiPerf,
Must be nice to have all that money
Nice boat and I hope you get that Cigarette they truly are the TOP notch in offshore.
The 39 Top Gun I looked at was just gorgeous from bow to stern. A work of art (not my
cup of tea) but still a work of art!
I almost bid on a 40' Excalibur that was on ebay a few months ago. It needed minor
work (mostly upholstry) but then logic hit me.. I have no place to park a 40' boat and
I don't want to deal with trailering, launching and retrieving a 40' boat either!
When I stood beside that Top Gun I was intimidated! -
LOL.... I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination.
The used 38 Top Guns are going for close to the same money i paid for the 342.
I am done buying new boats unless i win a power ball or something, talk about a blood bath.
You are right, the Cigarettes have so much attention to detail that it is amazing.

wtf are you people talking about ? lololol...
"Cigarettes" - "Top Gun's" - "Mercury's" - etc etc...
I take it maybe these are boat motors or boat accessories? I'm pretty sure Mercury's a boat motor...The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -

Jonathon,
I agree used is the way to go! Let the first owner take the beating. That's
why I couldn't justify buying a brand new 230SX for 55-60K. Instead I picked
up my 02 with 119 hours for 28K.
I did not want to be the one to take that hit. The boat has leveled off in it's
depriciation I can take it out this comming summer and enjoy it and turn
around next season and at least break even, maybe turn a profit if I let it
go with all the goodies in it that I am adding.
But honestly I am quite tickled pink with this boat. It's more than fast enough
and it's more than large enough for me. I won't buy a boat I have to park
outside.. If it can't go in my garage I won't own it. And a 30+ footer ain't
gonna fit
Have any photos of your Baja? I'd like to check them out if you do.
Thanks! -
I will post some in a day or so, i was going to break out the camera and post some pics of my home system.

Yours looks pretty good,
Perfect size for any lake.
We like to go to the gulf coast a lot so I have to have twins and at least 30 feet for the seas. -
Thank you. It's a fantastic boat but it's by no means a hard core offshore boat. I would
not be afraid of 6' seas (Erie can get much worse than that) but I think 6' is about as
bad of water as I would be in. Better safe than dead ya know
I wouldn't be afraid to go out in the gulf or even the atlantic side "within reason" I would
love to come down and launch her in the keys some time and motor around in that
gorgeous blue water.
23 is a nice size for me, I would have went a little bigger if Stingray offered it but they
got out of the 27 and 29' market a while ago. We (stingray owners) have been bitching
up and down for them to reintroduce a 27' and later a 29'. They don't have to be
all out offshore if they don't want to compete with Fountain, Baja and Eliminator that
is a very tough market to be in. But a 29' lake boat would still sell like hotcakes.
Hell look at Crownline they just came out with a 34' Bowrider (who the hell is going to
buy that big of a bowrider?)
You wouldn't catch me out in big water in an open bow unless it said Boston Whaler
or Grady White or Sea Swirl on the side! -
Just wanted to update this topic.
I finally got the boat into my garage! Woo Hoo! I am so excited that I can
now work on the boat at any time, in absolute comfort (heat, light, etc!)
I am working on installing my Garmin GPSMap 276c Chartplotter and accesories
for it. I will begin constructing the enclosures for the dual Momo 10's shortly
and I am still waiting on my head unit and amp.
I will post some photos of the boat in the garage this weekend.. It's comical
seeing a 23 footer in your garage -
Awesome! Now quite typing and get to work!!
Are you going to make one big box for the subs, or one enclosure for each? Sealed, I assume?George Grand wrote: »

They are not going to fit where I originally thought they would
I have a "Ski Locker" under the rear bench seat so I am going to make a small sealed
box for each driver and I am mounting them all the way at the oposing edges of the
ski locker (I don't want to take up all the good useable space in the center of the
locker). -
Here are some updated photos of what I've been doing!
Garmin GPSMap 276c ChartPlotter on a specific RAM Mount (TwistLoc) hard
wired and tied into the VHF and a Sonar unit.
Shakespear stubbie 36" end loaded whip antenna, 6Db Gain mounted with a RAM
mount that I had machined to accept the antenna base. It clamps onto the
windsheild frame or Bimini top with nylon thumb screws (non maring) and can be
removed and mounted anywhere. I ran 30' of antenna cable under the starboard
side gunnel and bundled it up nicely then ran the wire behind the gunnel upholstry
for a finished look.
Overall view of the cockpit with the carpets in place. Sorry you can't see
the MMC650's in this photo. And all of the photos I took of the speakers
came out blurry, I think the camera had a hard time locking on focus on the
drivers for whatever reason????
Uniden UM525 25 watt VHF with Digital Selective Calling and WHAMx4
expansion (allows up to 4 digital hand held units to be added on). This radio
interfaces with the GPS and if a distress signal needs to be sent out it will
give them your lattitude, longitude, elevation, MMSI Number, Hull Number
and a preprogrammed message.
A shot taken from inside the cuddy cabin showing the 12vdc fluroescent
lights that I installed. I am also installing a set of these in the engine compartment
and a pair under the port and starboard dashboards.
A shot of the Just Wicked Marine Drive Shower (red part) that I installed. I
can tell by the chalky deposits on the out drive that this thing was heating
up at full speed and the drive shower dumps about 35 gallons per minute
onto the drive at 30MPH and even more the faster you go.
The garage bay for the boat
If any of these don't show up, let me know so I can load them from my PC
instead. -
Ok, here's what I can make out from your second picture, from left to right, top to bottom:
Ford GT40, DeLorean, Back to the Future style, Monte Carlo,
Mercedes CLK-GTR, McLaren, F1 racing style, McLaren, street legal (though probably not for the US since I don't see funny looking bumpers on the front), something from Shelby, but I forget the name, then the next one looks like a BMW from the back and a Jetta from the front,
I really have no idea what that one is, looks kinda like a GT40, a Golf, then a Mercedes SLK230/320 (why in the world do you have one of those?! and why are the wheels black?), something from the 40's, and then an Audi TT Roadster,
The only thing I can make out on the bottom row is a Diablo

60K new (Window sticker was like 58K and some change) I picked it up used
(I am the second owner) for $28K with 119 hours on the clock (2002).
Yep tons of boat for the money.. Not many other boats will GPS at 72MPH
for 58-62 grand brand new.
And that's not even the biggest motor they offer
Like I said before.. Sure it would be nice to say I have a 39' Cigarette for
bragging rights, but I really do not want the hassles that go along with a boat
THAT BIG!
I could squeeze a 30 footer in the garage though... Hrmm.... -
