Polk Audio system in my boat.

Greetings all,
This is my first post here on the forums and I just wanted to introduce myself
and talk a little about my install (not a typical vehicle I guess)
My name is Brett I am 29 and I am a Car and Home Audio nut and I can't leave
much alone!
I will share some details about the vehicle and the install.
The vehicle:
2002 Stingray Powerboats 230SX
Ferrari Red Hull
22'8" LOA
8' Beam
40000Lb dry weight
496 Cubic Inch Mercury EFI Magnum (375 Horsepower at the Prop)
Corsa Captains Call Thru Hull/Thru Prop Exhaust (heml switchable electronic)
The factory audio system is fairly blah. It has a Kenwood KDC316V head unit
and four 6.5" Magnadyne marine speakers (blah...)
I already replaced all four speakers with Polk Momo MMC650's the head unit
is getting switched out to a Pioneer DEH9600MP the amp will be a Kicker
700.5 to run the coax's and dual Polk Momo MM104 Subs a Mobil Spec
Digital Readout 1.5 Farad Cap and a Mobil Spec digital display distro block and
a resetable circuit breaker at the batteries.
I do not have any photos of the install yet but I will take some when I get
the chance to do so. At the moment the MMC650's are running directly off
the Kenwood head unit and even being underpowered, at reasonable levels
the sound of the drivers is fantastic and leaps better than the garbage that
was in the boat. Once the full install is done and they are getting more, clean
power I can't wait to hear the results! The cockpit of a boat isn't exactly an
SQ area but I have to make do, and the positionable nature of the tweeters
helps a great deal.
I would have went with the components but I did not want to drill any holes
through the dash to mount the speakers, the dash is too expensive to replace
if I decided to take the system out later (like if I sold the boat).
Here are some photos of the boat it's self and once I get photos taken of
the install I will upload them.
Thanks for listening!
Brett

Good! I was having a hard time picturing it staying afloat! LOL
You've certainly got a good system planned. Congrats, and I hope you soon fall in love with it!George Grand wrote: »

In the middle picture, what is the door inbetween the two chairs for? Is that just like a storage area?

Shack,
Thanks for posting those photos to explain (sorry I was in bed sleeping, I work
steady night turn).
The doors lead to the "Cuddy Cabin" which has a Vberth bed with enough room
to sleep two people fairly comfortably and under the flip up Vberth pads are
a Thetford Porta Potti, Kenyon Single Burner Butane Stove and a Whale 3.5
Gallon Fresh Water Sink. It's enough to qualify it as a "Second Home" tax
deduction (if you financed it).
It's a cool place to chill and get out of the sun and kick back and watch some
movies on the laptop or spend a weekend on the lake etc.. -
Damn that's effin sweet. Sleepin on the toilet would kinda freak me out though.Fiberglass reminds me of peanut brittle, only fiberglass tastes better!

I hear ya! How about cookin a meal beside the toilet? Really the stove and
sink are just there for the tax deductions that's the real reason they put it
in there. But the toilet does serve a function and after you do your thing and
flush, it's sealed in a chamber below the bowl so it's not like you are going to
have any issues. Plus your head is up towards the nose of the boat and the
toilet is down by your feet.
I don't plan on actually using the toilet unless it's an EMERGENCY!!! heh -

That would be kinda awkward. But I guess you could relieve yourself and still flip burgers on the grill.George Grand wrote: »

That's why I don't drink anymore! The last time I spent 10 hours hanging over
the porcelain godess was the last time I drank.

Winter sucks..
You know, it's a shame when you bring home a new toy and can't even really
play with it till you know the freezing weather is gone for the season. I want
to fire the 496 Mag up real bad but if I do then I have to go through a ritual
of purging all the water from the raw water side of the cooling system and
that takes more than an hour and numerous drain plugs have to be removed.
C'mon winter.... GO AWAY!
I am going to order my Polk Momo 10's this weekend and I should have my
Kicker 700.5 Amp and Pio DEH9600MP head unit in about two weeks. I also
need to get about 20' of 4 Awg ground and positive cable and a 80 or 100
amp reset circuit breaker to mount at the batteries.
I can't do much of anything till all the stuff shows up so I can work out where
to cram it all. I have some rough ideas but without measurements I am not
busting out the saw or roto-zip! -

Do you all think the 700.5 will be adequate enough to run the system?
without looking up the specs on the web site I beleive it is 45 watts RMS x4 +
400X1 That's with a 4 Ohm Nominal on the full range and 2 Ohm Nominal on
the subs. It can handle 2 Ohm on both sections which raises the output to
the 80 watts RMS ballpark if you drive the full range at 2 ohm but I am not
going to do that.
As long as that's enough juice to get me clean "reasonable" volume levels I
will be happy. -
i'd sleep on the toilet if it meant hangin with that chick... hahaha... how bout we slap a polk audio sticker on her bikini and have a party? The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge

No 5 channel amp will be enough to outgun your captains call, but should be enough to really give great sound when in cruise mode or sittin on the sand beach attempting to lure Shack's berth buddy away.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Dennis,
Hah you are right about the Captains Call.... When we dyno'd the boat at the dealer in
Illinois before I brought it home we ran it through the Prop and Thru Hulls to make sure
everything was ok. WOW is it LOUD! My truck (2004 Hemi Ram RumbleBee) has a Flowmaster
Super 40 Hemi muffler with a 3.5" In and dual 2.5" outlets and I eliminated the resonator
and it's no where near as loud as the boat (and the truck sets off car alarms!).
Fortunatly when I want to be quiet and stealthy I can just flip the switch on the dash
and direct the exhaust through the prop and be able to think and hear!
As long as I have good tunes when I am anchored that will be just fine -

boats work all year round... you just need snow propellers for them. the blizzak snow propeller - only 99.95 at your nearest firestone dealer.
and a 5 channel could overcast the boat if its 200 x 4 @ 2 ohms and you bridge it and strap it to a single speaker. the other 400 x 1 mono can be used to push little vibrating devices under the seat of that hot chick. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -

I checked into the snow propeller and a pair of Bow Ski's... I am not into
sledding... LOL
I could always strap a JBL Concert Horn cabinet on the nose of the boat and
use one of those JBL 6000Watt x 1 amps to push it! -
Ordered my MOMO 10" Subs and Grills today from the place I buy my boat parts. They
wanted too much money for them last week (Like $150 each) but they went on sale
this week for $120 each and $13 each for the Grills plus I had 10% off of any order over
$150.
All in all I saved like $90.00 on the order! I had to get boat stuff so I figured I might
as well get the subs from them too, they had a heck of a price on the MMC650's when
I ordered them.
w00t it's all comming together -
