I never actually sat down and read this whole thread, just skimmed it before. Since I'm waiting for a database to reload, I figured I'd partake. This raises alot of question for me and there is alot I want to say concerning the cops and doing stupid stuff. But I will gladly give up asking all of those questions and not post a novel if someone can answer me this:

Hey, it's definitely all about perspective. Being 18 (just barely), I haven't driven many different cars. In fact the entire list would be my 1995 Cherokee, Dad's 2001 Suburban, Mom's 2001 Chrysler Town & Country, Dad's 2002 Jetta TDI, and a friend's (my dad's friend) 1991 Corvette. Considering that I drove the 'Vette over a year ago and not long after I started driving, the only thing I remember is how hard it was to steer (heavy feeling; not bad, just different). So we can wipe that off the board. That leaves me with the four other cars, that would all probably do 0-60 in about the same time frame, give or take a second or two (and in this league, an entire second is a small percentage of the entire time ).
What am I getting at? My point is that you can read magazines all day long and judge what's fast and what's slow from specs (like I do), but you can't have a feel for it until you drive it. And because of that, I'm amazed at how fast my Jeep is every time I stomp on that accelerator despite the awful specs it has. Of course I know it's not a fast car, it's shaped like a brick, and it can't handle; but what else can I compare it to? And just the whole concept of how the engine works, how it hooks up with the tranny, what the tranny does, and so on makes it even more amazing.
So, I guess I say all that to say that no, the Avenger definitely isn't fast, but for a first time driver and for someone who's probably not driven a lot of other cars, it is fast.
Now, I have a few more questions for those who would know (MrNightly?). If I'm sitting at a traffic light, pop it in neutral, and rev it up (sounding mean in my Cherokee  ), what would a cop do? I understand that it would get his attention and probably make him suspiscious and maybe even get him to follow me, but there's nothing wrong with that in and of itself, is there? Also, y'all said that breaking the tires loose is a 'display of speed' and is ticketable. However, what if, sitting at a light, I hold the brake and hit the gas and break loose the rear tires, let off the gas and stop spinning the tires, all while the light is red and then take off nice and easy when the light turns green? I know that sounds stupid and who would do it, but I was just wondering.George Grand wrote: »

Youre right, that sounds stupid!
If you rev the motor up at a redlight while stopped there is nothing illegal about that, just something a little weird.
Power braking while at a redllight however is illegal and will get you slapped with a ticket in most cases.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

I really don't want to create a gulf between me and any member on this board, but....your reaction is just so funny. Not being a smart lil' know-it-all teenager with this remark as it's actually a question...but aren't you going to start chastising PT for actually racing on the streets?! I mean...I don't even do that (I mean, come on...what's a Cherokee gonna take...a pinto? ).George Grand wrote: »

I don't want a gulf either, but I have NO patience for this kind of BS whether done by a juvenile or adult.
Like I said, I'm tired of turning on the news & hearing about some dumb show off kid wrapping him & his buddies around a tree leaving behind grieving parents & other kids who have counselors standing by at school to help them deal.
I can have some sympathy for you, since it seems to be the mandate of kids to think they are imortal & bad stuff can't possible happen to them. Hopefully you will live to learn better & will not have killed yourself or anyone else while trying to prove that misbegotten idea.
As for PT, if he wraps himself around something & ends up dead, I will have no sympathy for him whatsoever since he should know better by now! I will only hope he didn't take anyone with him if it happens.
It might sound cold but, that is what the bad news reports & seeing cars literally torn in half have done to me!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
Well, I hafta say I'm done with this. All I can say is I'm not that typical teenager you keep describing and thus keep categorizing me with. I also pray that I'll make it through life alive, but not because I'm stupid now and I'll learn to see things right when I grow up, but because I'm inexperienced now.
And it'd take a whole lot more than driving stupid for me to have no sympathy for someone who gets killed in a car wreck.George Grand wrote: »

yes, it is illegal for you to spin your tires at a stop light. I'm not sure what it is, but if you catch a rock and sling it at the car behind you they might not be too happy with you. Even if you do it when no cars around, im sure theyll still get you on something.
putting it in neutral and hitting the gas wouldnt be illegal i dont think. Just tell em your engine was about to die and you had to give it some gas:D

you gota recheck them numbers. WAY off I4 vs V6 Stick vs auto. My engine swap to a 3.5L V6 and exile trany. and my huge injectors make a big diferance as well. But your numbers arent right even for a stock of my car "99 ES V6 2.5L 24V"
P.S. there not fast at aceleration, just got high top speeds of 140+ Provided you give them the room to pick it up.
